PALERMO - A bunch of chiseters is operating at the Uppter Township Senior Center here. After a summerlong performance, the group has even installed a sample product on the grounds of the center. The Weathered WhitUers, made up of some dozen members at the center, have been busy shaping an authentic look- ' ing Indian totem pole from a utility pole. THE HAND-HEWN result is topped by an eagle clasping a fish and includes three fearsome demon beads, with a serpent entwining the pole at the base. The group was formed as a result of members' continuing interest in wood carving following classes taught at the center by Harry V. Shourds, a thirdgeneration carver whose Duck's Nest Shop is in Seaville. So pleased were the carvers with their product that they are already at work on another totem pole at the center on Old Stagecoach Road.
