UP THE CREEK (Vestron) "R" Okay, on the surface this film stinks. Its jokes are sopbomoric, the direction lazy, and the premise insipid (Animal House goes on a raft race). With all that in mind, there are enough laughs here to recommend it to those who enjoy drive-in humor more than, let's say. Woody AUen. Although it was probably a poor career move on his part, Tim Matheson gives an engaging performance in the lead role, once again showing there's a great light comedy actor ready for stardom. His sly, boyish charm works well in Up The Creek and, if Matheson hadn't been chosen for this movie, it would have been a complete washout. Don't expect subtle humor when viewing Up The Creek, because it's not there. However, one should find a few memorable moments to make the fjlm-v worth a night's rental. HOSPITAL MASSACRE ( MGM/UA ) "R" This 1981 feature starring former Playmate of the year/Hee Haw regular Barbie Benton isn't a very good horror film. The story is slow and underdeveloped, the acting wooden, and the hospital is so dark it makes viewing difficult. There are a few well done, although extremely graphic, special effects but the mood of Hospital Massacre never allows the tension to build enough to make them scary. That's the main problem with Hospital Massacre: it never lives up to its name. NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES (Vestron) "R" Pitsburgh's George Romero might be known as the master of ! zombie movies, but more releases in this sub-genre 1 of horror seem to come out 1 of Italy than anywhere else. They really love their 1 zombie movies in Italy. < This is perfect Saturday I

afternoon creature feature fodder. Scientists mess around and the dead come back to life, living off those who remain alive. Obviously the plot is just like other zombie films but with decent special effects, some scary moments, and campy dialogue. Night Of The Zombies is fun, although hardly essential, viewing.
