C AR A Film Set COURT HOUSE - The Coalition Against Rape and Abuse, Inc. (C.A.R.A.) will show the rape prevention film, "Victim or Victors", to the Women of the Seaville United Methodist Church, Rt. 9 in Oceanview, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7. By Charles Lamey It comes as no surprise that the first solo effort from Peter Wolf after departing the J. Geils Band is an exciting album that shows he's more than capable of making it on his own. Lights Out (EMI America) finds Wolf in several settings ranging from modern R&B to 60sI inspired soul and straight ahead rock and roll. No matter the style of the song. Peter Wolf gives it his goodtime stamp of originality that makes each number enticing. Besides his sharp, direct vocals and excellent material, his musical support gives Lights Out plenty of punch. It's nice to see Wolf has adjusted to life without the J. Geils Band. VETERAN ENGLISH rocker Dave Edmunds probably isn't capable of making a bad record. Since the late 60s, his SOs-influenced rock and roll has taken him from cult idol to the top of the album charts. Riff Raff (Columbia) is a good-but-not-great effort. The songs, vocals, and performances should please his hardcore following, but there's ^slickness to the production that detracts a bit. Nevertheless, most of these tracks rock hard and Edmunds' warm, friendly vocals save those that are muddled. Dave Edmunds is capable of better, but, even at his absolute worst, he's superior to most of today's pop music. THE HOODOO Gurus's Stoneage Romeos (A&M) is one of the»mo6t promising debuts this year. This young Austrailian band has a variety of influences that cover 60s psychedelia, newwave, rockabilly, and merseybeat, yet with their spirited vocals, fiery performances, and confident air transcend their inspirations. IThe Hoodoo Gurus' material is so full of potential, one can honestly see ■ them making a borne for ■ themselves on our charts. Jazz fans who want to check out a hot rock musician for a change should pick up Steve Morse's The Introduction (Elektra /Musician). This -collection of rock instrumental from the former guitarist of The Dregs is certainly enthralling. Morse is a fluid, crafty soloist, who improvises well, yet doesn't ruin the spirit of the overall sound. It's his group, yet he's fully aware that there's nothing more boring than a musician who flaunts his ego in public. »
