Smokeout Scheduled

RIOGRANDE - For the eighth consecutive year, the American Cancer Society is sponsoring the Great American Smokeout Thursday, Nov. 15. Irv Posternock of Wildwood Crest, has been named chairman of Cape May County and is urging all county smokers to give

up cigarettes for the 24-hour period. He states "Smoking cigarettes is no laughing matter, and neither is quitting but once a year thousand^ of serious quitters— try to make it through the day without a »v_says that it is tough to quit but he did it 16 years ago, and he smoked three packs a day! The county Cancer Society stands ready to help and has literature containing .facts about cigarette smoking as the single greatest cause of lung cancer and tips on bow to quit for good. The society will display its literature, posters, buttons and Smokeout materials at the Rio Mall, Rio Grande Nov. 13, 14 and 15 from 8 p.m. For information on joining the Great American Sihokeout, contact the American Cancer Society, 15 Delsea Drive, Rio. Boro Goes 50 Without A Fatality Aided, perhaps, by its remoteness from any fourlane highway — through some might argue that Broadway isn't exactly a bypass — West Cape May has recorded 50 consecutive years without a pedestrian fatality. That accomplishment earned the borough a citation in the Keystone , Motorist, publication of the Keystone Automobile Club, in its September-October edition. Two dfrer Cape May County municipalities were singled out on their safety records: Ocean City, for 10 years without a pedestrian death, and Lower Township, for two years without a fatality.
