Kean Names Gibbs To Board
AVALON - Joseph T. Gibbs, the borough's safety I and loss prevention manager, has been named by Gov. Thomas Kean to the Public Employees Occupational Safety Health Advisory Board under the Commissioner of Labor. During his tenure in the muncipal post, Gibbs instituted changes in its safety and health programs which brought the borough a $17,000 dividend from its workmen's compensation policy. The borough has maintained a perfect safety record since 1978 AVALON WAS named top in the state in safety in the workplace, and received the George Burke Facility Safety Award from the Water Pollution Control Federation. "Avalon is fortunate to have Gibbs and his talent and we are proud to have the governor recognize his work and achievements.'" said Andrew Bednarek, borough administrator. Gibbs has worked in the field of occupational safety
and health for the Philadelphia Fire Department and for Smith Kline, a pharmaceutical firm. He became affiliated with the borough after his retirement here. HE HAS established clinics as well as safety manuals for the borough. Every accident is investigated, and all protec-
tive equipment is inspected monthly. His most innovative program has been to equip personnel with protective clothing and breathing equipment for any work underground or in confined areas. The borough also has an ongoing safe driving program for public employees.
Medicare Workshop ! 1 I Tomorrow . COURT HOUSE - Friends of Burdette plan a 7:30 p.m. forum and workshop on "Medicare, A User's Guide" tomorrow in the old court house. Main Street (Route 9). The guide was prepared by a member of the El 2 Paso. Tex., chapter of the American Association of 1 Retired Persons (AARP) aided by a newspaper columnist.
