September Crossings Increase September was a good month for traffic on both the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and the Delaware Memorial Bridge, with both chalking up increases in the number of vehicle crossings in the month. Perhaps, reflecting the end of the summer season at the Cape, however passenger traffic on the ferry dropped off sharply. Traffic totaled 35,395 vehicles and 107.890 passengers compared to 35,312 vehicles and 111,782 Passengers for September 1983. During September it was reported to the Delaware River and Bay Authority, traffic on the bridge increased by 107,441 vehicles from September, 1983, an increase of 6 3 percent.
