Black Foster Care Needed in County
RIO GRANDE - There I is a pressing need for black I foster care homes in the county, even for pre-school I age children. ' Chuck Hiddemen, foster « home finder for the Youth I and Family Services ' district office, said foster parents are increasingly < harder to find because '
there are more two-income households. Hie needs is further compounded because there are minimum day care resources, Hiddemen told the county Foster Care and Adoption Task Force. "Today's foster parents are being asked to do more than jyst maintain a child
in their home," Hiddemen said. "We are seeking and, fortunate, finding families willing and able to work with birth parents to help them provide a stable, nurturing environment for the children who will be returning to their care. •FOSTER PARENTS
who can work with children at whatever level they present themselves, and help them grow and develop, are needed." Hiddeman said. "Additionally, families are needed who will involve themselves in the decisionmaking steps in order to insure the child ultimately is able to have a permanent
I and secure home. "In a nutshell, -we are looking for families able to I make a commitment to be a meaningful part of a child's lifetime." A 12-hour mandatory training course for those inI teres ted in being foster I parents will resume tomor | row. The training is conducted by Hiddemen and Diane Bechtold, a local foster parent and task | force member, at the Social Service Building in Rio Grande. Foster parents receive a monthly board reimbusement which varies from $160 for an infant to $200 for an adolescent, plus an addi- . tional clothing allowance every three months between $175 and $393 a year Foster families are need ed for children of all ages However, the greatest present need is for home for black children, sibling groups, and children 12 to 16. Further information is available by calling -the Division of Youth and Family Services, 886-1105.
