Aid fdr Retarded On Ballot t *

COURT HOUSE - On<T of the ballot questions facing voters on election day next Tuesday is a state bond issue, which, if approved. will trickle down to benefit 750 mentally retarded males at the Woodbine Developmental Center. The center would receive $1,083,000 as its share of the overall $60 million to be raised for making improvements to buildings housing not only the state's mentally retarded, but the mentally ill. the homeless, the blind, veterans and children. Woodbine Developmental Center intends to spend $139,000 for fire doors at the 99-year-old facility, plus $230,000 to upgrade fire protection in residential cottages. The center would also spend $52§JJ00 to install an

emergency electrical generator, and another $189,000 to install wainscoting or wall paneling in cottages. The Department of Human Services, which proposed the bond issue, said the work at Woodbine alone would generate 25 jobs. Cape May County Day Training Center, located in Court House, would also

receive $33,000 in roof repairs if the bond issue passes. The center provides arts and crafts training for 35 mentally retarded men and women. It is 13 years old. A key focus of the bond issue is on upgrading fire protection equipment, such as smoke detectors, sprinkler and alarm systems at various institutions throughout the state.

PjOTptes JEMetierich COURT HOUSE - Mark Diederich, director of the county Office of Consumer ^/Affairs, was honored recently by the Postal Inspection Service for assistance in helping to prevent postal related crimes. ' Diederich was presented with a plaque in ceremonies at the county office here." The presentation was made by Postal Inspector Anthony M. Wolchasty of the Philadelphia Division, which covers Cape May County. The county official was i cited for his work in aler- | ting consumers to mail J fraud schemes and helping j the inspection service to j keep the general public J informed.
