Q. I THINK a wrong decision was made on whether my self-employment income counts for Social Security. Do I have a right to review the guidelines on which the decision was based1 A. Yes. Any Social" Security office has a copy of the law. regulations, claims manuals, and other materials you can look at. Q. If another government | agency asks for my Social Security number, do I have the right to know why it's requested? A. Yes. Any federal, state, or local government agency that asks you for the number must explain whether it is mandatory or voluntary, under what authority the number is being requested, and what uses will be made of it. Yes, there are some time limits for submitting medical insurance claims. For medical insurance to make payment on your claims, you must send in your claims within these time limits, but you always have at least 15 months to submit claims. Q. A BANK refused to open an account for me unless I gave them my Social Security number. Is this legal? A. Yes. Your Social Security number is also used for federal tax purposes. In addition, some nongovernment organizations also use Social Security numbers for recordkeeping purposes. Such use is neither required nor pro' hibited by federal law, and, the organization is not obligated to provide you, service if you do not give your Social Security number. Knowing your number, however, does not mean an organization can get any personal information from your Social Security record. Q. I believe some information in my Social Security record is incorrect and want it changed. How can I go about this? A. Contact any Social Security office. Yes, your wife may receive this therapy under Medicare medical insurance. However, certain deductibles apply, and there is a yearly maximum amount payable for this therapy. Q. My doctor has advised me to get a flu shot this year. Will Medicare pay for this vaccine? A. No. Medicare medical insurance cannot pay for immunizations (except penumococcal vaccinations of those required because of an injury or immediate risk of infection).
