HOMEBOUN'D AID — Mrs. Jane Tedesco, left, of Wildwood Crest, and Diane Rhile, Communicall coordinator at Burdette Tomlon Memorial Hospital, discuss program that allows elderly and handicapped persons to summon emergency help when a phone is not within reach. Mrs. Tedesco. who uses a walker to get around, was able to summon police and neighbors on two occasions when she fell and couldn't get up by herself. She is one of 22 persons in Cape May County now using the system.
Direct Deposit Advised
The direct deposit of Social Security checks offers many advantages to recipients^ Direti deposit means-that the monthly Social Security check iysent directly \toXTinancial institution - a checking or savings account in a bank, savings and loan association, or ^similar institution, or to a federal or statechartered credit union. THE FIRST advantage is obvious: A person who has direct deposit doesn't have to worry about having a check lost or stolen. If away from home on vacation or for any other reason, the person doesn't have to worry about a check remaining in the mail box for days at a time. In addition, a person who has direct deposit doesn't have to stand in line to cash or deposit a check since it goes directly into the person's account. Anyone wishing to arrange for direct deposit should contact the financial organization of his or
t her choice and comr plete the necessary ' form. Only the person > or those he or she authorizes can make withdrawals from the ■ account. MOREOVER, people who later change their mind about direct deposit can arrange to have thier checks mailed to their home once
- more. People may l also change the finani cial institution to t which their checks ; are sent. Even though beneficiaries may choose the conve- •• nience of direct deposit, they must " remember to notify Social Security if they 1 change their regular mailing address.
