Wildwood Catholic Will Give ' Gypsy '
NORTH WILDWOOD - Wildwood Catholic High School will present Gypsy on the evenings of Nov. 16, 17, 18, and 21 at 8:15 p.m. Under the direction of Richard Turco and Ms. Judy Tague, the cast has been preparing for opening night since early in September. The show is based on the life of Gypsy Rose Lee, who came into her own as a burlesque queen. IN THE OPENING scenes, we see (lose, the mother played by Ann Feraco, encouraging her two daughters, Louise and June, to become Broadway stars. June is a talented daughter, played by Lizanne Martin and Kelly McCausland, while Louise is the opposite in talent and interest, protrayed by Robin Salasin and baby Louise by Sheryl Libofsky. Rose's life has been a full one. She has entered into r
three marriages, none of which was happy. She now has an attraction to Herbie, who is a Broadway agent. Herbie, Tony Sittineri, is
flattered by her attention and agrees to work June into shows. AS THE. STORY unravels, June runs off to marry against Rose's wishes. Her choice of husband is Tulsa, Nathan Garcia, who has been one of the boys in the act. As this frustration enters Rose's life, she in turn looks to Louise to be the Broadway star she had pictured June to become. However, since Louise is not the most talented, her opening night is a flop. Rose is not satisfied and continues to push Louise. Herbie now books her into a burlesque palace, where Louise becomes known as the "Burlesque Queen". Other Members of the
cast include: Mike Peragine, Tony Disilvestro, Marc Miranda, Larry Murphy, Corinne Caterini, Melissa Doyle, Maria Rayauskas, Frank Vogel, Donna Ogen, Kris Brooks, DeAnne Becker, Patty Clark, Shannon MCormack, Bridgette Lambert. By Charles Lamey After a good, but still somewhat disappointing third album, Joan Jett has roared bafk with a vengeance. Glorious Results Of A Misspent Youth (MCA/Blackheart) is without a doubt Jett's finest moment so far. What makes this effort successful is the choice of i material. Jett clearly feels at ease singing and playing these tunes. The finest moments still come on the hard rockers, with Joan's dynamic rhythm guitar keeping the fiery spirit of her band lit and her rough, raspy vocals demanding attention. But, even on the slower numbers, Jett's performances deserve respect. As she stated in an earlier song, Joan Jett loves rock and roll, and it's never been more obvious than on Glorious Results Of A Misspent Youth. |4 . THE DB'S have been praised by critics around I the world, yet Like This (Bearsville), their third album, is their first release j in their home country, j While this isn't the master- ! piece their longtime fans know they're capable of, this is still prime, melodic rock. A FEW SONGS off Karen Kamon's debut album, Heart Of You (Columbia), show a talented vocalist who was reared on the great Phil Spectorproduced girl groups of the 60's. Unfortunately, a little bit of promise is all we get. Kamon is a fine vocalist, but the arrangements and material never equal her talents. Maybe next time things will fall into place for her. « ~ Michael Hurley is a delightfully original folksinger, who has a decentsized cult following, despite the fact his records aren't widely distributed or played on commercial radio. Those who've heard him, fall in love with his goofy originals sung in a pleasing, friendly voice. Blue Navigator (Rooster, RFD #2, Bethel, VT. 05032) might not be as off-the-wall as his previous albums, but when compared to the works of self-conscious singer-songwriters, its good natured feel comes off like a breath of fresh air. Hurley is a rare treat
