Power Volleyball League in Action
CAPE MAY - In the inaugural match of the 1984-85 Power Volleyball season the Lighting Dimensions' Killerwatts took on The Potter in a matchup of old rivals. Lighting Dimensions got on top early as it took an 8-5 lead. The Potter stiffened its defense at that point and rushed to a commanding 13 to 8 lead behind the perfect spikes and aggressive blocks of Bob Jackson. The Potter went on to win the game 15 to 10 despite the fine all around play of the Killerwatts' Jim Papale. GAME TWO was nip and tuck throughout with Lighting Dimensions' Rick Ferrante supplying some nice spikes. The Potter prevailed, however, 15 to 13 to go up two games on the Killerwatts. The Killerwatts came storming back in game three as they took a huge
11-7 lead behind the spiking of Bill Abadie. The Potter clawed its way back to an 11-11 tie as the Killerwatts couldn't penetrate the ex^ cellent net coverage of thw Potter's Joe Halasz and Bob Jackson. With the score tied at 14 to 14 the Killerwatts' Papale and Ferrante teamed up to give their team a 16 to 14 victory with some nice setting and . spiking. The Potter returned the favor in the final game as it ran away with the contest 15 to 8. THE SECOND match pitted Faunce Enterprises against Whippoorwill Campground. Faunce Enterprises got out of the gate quickly in the first game behind the awesome spikes of Andy Butler, only to see the early lead evaporate as Whippoorwill Campground took a slim 11-10 lead. Faunce Enterprises shut down Whippoorwill at that
point and cruised to victory 15-11. Faunce took an insurmountable 12 to 3 lead in game two and held on against a barrage of spikes from Whippoorwill 's Greg Shulte to take the game 15 to 9. Whippoorwill turned things around in game three as the powerful spikes of Steve Faragher and the perfect sets of Bill Holt propelled them to a 15 to 9 whitewashing of Faunce Enterprises. Whippoorwill looked as though it would even the match in the final game as it took a 13 to 7 lead, but Faunce Enterprises turned the game around behind the spiking of Andy Butler as it secured a narrow 15 to 13 victory.
