With the post-season months firmly upon us "Islanders.'' it is rewarding to see an unusually large number of groups, clubs, and 'associations organizing activities and events for the upcoming winter months. Ranking high on the list of popular activities are the various, sponsored bus trips. It will be our pleasure, through this column. to keep you constantly apprised of the "trip schedule" available to all Greater Wildwood residents. Please keep in mind, that in addition to having an enjoyable time, any proceeds derived from these fine activities enable the sponsoring group tobetter serve your community! Nov. 28: The Wildwood Recreation Department is sponsoring a Senior Citizen irip to Philadelphia to see "Oklahoma' For $20, you will be treated to the show, ♦dinner, and the bus trip. Call the Recreation Center at 522-5837 to make reservations. Dec. 4: "Cats" is the destination of the Wildwood Crest PTC's annual theater tcqfr.This outstanding mu^gl has drawn rave reviews for truly notewor- ' thy musical scores and performances. Tickets are $50 and in addition to tickets to the musical, you will have some time to do some Christmas shopping at the Gallery. Call 522-2910 to make your reservations. WE ALSO HAVE advance notice of interest to all of you Island "Bingo Fanatics." A trip is being planned to visit the world's largest Bingo Hall at the Cherokee Indian Reservation in South Carolina. We will keep you posted as the updated information is received, so keep practicing your "craft" at any of the local civic organization's bingo nights and get t ready for the BIG ONE this spring and don't miss a single week's column or you just might miss the information ... THE FOUR BROWNIE troops in residence along Five Mile Beach are pleased to announce the commencement of iheir annual Cookie Sale. Now through Nov. 19, a bevy of little brown-clad beauties between the ages pf 7 and 10 will be selling 'cookies to support ' their many activities. The cookies are $2 a box and are a 'healthful bargain. The cookies, especially manufactured for the Brownies and Girl Scouts, are free from all ar: tificial preservatives, baked exclusively with vegetable shortening, arid are Kosher. The Brownies, would like to suggest that you' "stock -up" for the upcoming holiday seasons. Having many, many, many friends with daughters who are proud members of local troops, I can personally attest to the fact that the cookies freeze very well. The proceeds from the cookie sales ($1.23/box> are used for troop activities, Camp maintenance, and program development.
SOMEWHAT BELATED congratulations are due the Wildwood Crest Police Department's soffball team for winning the 1984 Cape May County Fireman's Softball Tournament held in Goshen. Team ! members and PBA members from the Crest ' P.D. were Mike Vey, Bob Stevenson, Dave Wood. Rick Anzelone, and Blaine Robinson. Joining the Crest team from the Wildwood P.D. were John W'issett and John Davis. Todd Pierce was recruited from the Cape May Pros* Two Wildwood Crest summer i personnel also par- : ticipated: Bill Kita and Bill Toland. Toland was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award as the Crest team went undefeated in the day long tournament, posting a 5 and 0 record. For many years, the acting ensembles from Wildwood Catholic have treated Greater Wildwood residents to outstanding ' theatrical and musical performances. This year, "Gypsy," under -the capable direction of Judy Tague and Richard Turco, promises to be a most entertaining event. Featuring a cast of 40 students. "Gypsy" will be performed Nov. 16, 17, 18. and 21, with the curtain rising promptly at 8:15 p.m. THE GREATER Wildwood Junior Wrestling program is underway again and a note of sincere appreciation should be extended to Coach Rick Brown and his assistants for the development of thisvery popular activity. Each year, dozens of youngsters between the ages of 6 and Ip participate in the program. Slated for ,Rfis- year are six matches and several tournaments. Both the Wildwobd Recreation Center and the North Wildwooa^ Rec. Center serve as vjiost facilities from all ovfep-^he Northeast. The annual midwinter, Convention Hall tournament attracts thousands of spectators and has become one of the more popular tournaments in the Junior Wrestling ' Association circuit. The season for the Junior Wrestlers runs from November through February. THE SCUBA diving team from the Wildwood Crest Ambulance Corps is again at Pennypacker State Park in Florida gathering the necessary diving hours to / retain certificatipir -The^7 team comprised of Tom Sawyer, Frank Accardi. Gary Weyhmiller, and Pat Visalli were joined this year by Greg Lacivita, Crest resident and motel owner. Last year, Carmen DelMonte, North Wildwood innkeeper and entertainer, traveled with the team to assist in water rescue techniques and boating \ safety.
