In the summer of 1980 he was ranked 19th in the world in the 50-meter freestyle. BY 1982 Hart moved his world rankings up to 14th in the 100-meter freestyle, and 17th in the 50-meter free. "I like the challenge of providing a service to as many groups and individuals as possible," he ' said," the citizens of the Crest and surrounding boroughs have a growing concern for health care and swimming activities. It's good to see people getting involved; and knowing that the borough officials will back up my programs 100 * percent as if I'm on a team all over again."

Protective Advice On Bats Furnished

COURT HOUSE - Suggestions for protecting humans and pets from the possibility of rabies have been given by Louis J. LaManna, county Public Health Coordinator. LaManna referred particularly to the transmission of the disease through bats. Recently, LaManna said, a bat gained entry to a house in Middle Township and was caught alive by the family's pet dog, which played with it before the bat was killed. In a subsequent laboratory anaylsis, the bat was found to be rabid, he said. FORTUNATELY, the dog had received all its shots and had recently had a rabies shot. Following the incident, the was revaccinated. Since rabid bats have been reported from every state except Hawaii and have caused human rabies infections in the United States, reasonable measures should be taken to avoid them, LaManna declared.

• "Every known direct contact with a bat, whether or not a bite has occurred, should be immediately telephoned into this department he went on."This is an emergency situation. If the bat has been recovered, it must be delivered to the state rabies laboratory at once. Provocation is not an issue where bats are concerned. All possible exposures require an evaluation by a department representative." SHOULD be eliminated from houses. In addition, people should not handle dead bats in any way. Should you happen to kill a bat, wear gloves or some type of protection to pick it up. If you should kill a bat or discover a dead bat, contact either your local police department or the county department. These recommendations and procedures are issued a precautionary measures and are in no way indicative of major health problem in the county, sais LaManna.
