Boxing Returns

OCEAN CITY - Amateur boxing returns to Ocean City 8 p.m. Saturday with eight Golden Glove bouts set for the Sports and Civic Center, 6th Street and Boardwalk. Sponsored by the City's Recreation Department and Mainstream Boxing Club, the card will feature prominent Delaware Valley boxers including super heavyweight Charles "Too Fast" Thurman, 1984 Golden Glove finalist in New York City.

Jose Neris, 106 pounds. New Jersey State Champion, and Sonny Cousin, 147 pounds, South Jersey Champion, will also be featured. The City's Sports and Civic Center was. recently completed and will provide bright, modern setting for the competition. Tickets available at .the Recreation Department, 6th Street and Atlantic Avenue, Mac's Donuts, 1260 West Ave., and Jim Cassidy Builders, 1420 Haven Ave.

Kona Undefeated, / Tops Team Tennis

COURT HOUSE - Kona Sports emerged as the only unbeaten team in Town Team Tennis action in the second night of competition at the Jersey Cape Racquet Club by downing Avalon Real Estate in a hard fought contest. Avalon took an early lead as the Ladies Doubles team of Martha Turkington and Roni Zane swept past their opponents to an 8 - 3 victory. Kona was ready to fight back, however, and scored victories in the next three events. THE MEN'S Doubles team of Bob Ansell and Mike Sciarra topped their opponents by a score of 8 - 3. Kona 's father — daughter of Bob and Sherri Sheppard continued their winning ways, coming out

ahead at Avalon's mother — son team of Barbara . Kerr and Mike Renza by a close score of 9 - 7. Julie Chrietzburg of Kona played well as she brought her team an 8 - 2 win in Ladies Singles event. Avalon's Lionel Desrosier gave his team an 8 - 2 victory in the Men's. Singles event but it wasn't enough to give Avalon a win for the evening as Kona finished ahead by the close score of 30 - 28 to end the first match. THE NEXT match of the evening between Cape Insurance and Apex Realty also saw lots of tennis action. Apex's Donna Mazurek topped her opponent 8 - 5 in the Ladies'

Singles event as Bobbie Morrier and Jackie Smith, also from Apex, scored a victory with their 8 - 4 win in the Ladies' Doubles event to give Apex an early lead. Cape Insurance snapped right back to victory as Joe Malioy and Dan Hughes topped their opponents by a score of 8 - 4 in the Men's Doubles event. Cape's Mixed Doubles team of Helen Ann Lloyd and Ernie Yarborough finished ahead of Apex's Linda Camp and Phil Kelly 9 - 8. Apex was undaunted as Bob Hughes's 8 - 5 victory over Tony Fittipaldi in the Men's Sing'es event ended the evening's tennis action. Apex went home the victors with the final score of 36-31.

Split Decision Goes To Kona • CAPE MAY - Kona Realty captured a split decision,, in women's volleyball oyer Pete's Racquet Club, 16-14, 11-15, 15-6, snaring the decisive third game behind the serving of Joanne DeCosta and Tasha Jordan. Judy Ricco and Judy Mohler excelled during Pete's game two conquest. The C-View Inn knocked the South Jersey Champions from their pedestal with a 15-7, 15-9, 15-7 sweep. Good teamwork and the serving of Sue Fitz and Lynette Miller carried the C-View to victory. The C-View Inn easily defeated the FNB of Toms River Tom Cats in a threegame sweep.
