Development Plan For Young Players
COURT HOUSE - The Junior Development program at Jersey Cape Racquet Club is beginning a new season under the direction of Lee Jones and George Cade. Jones is the former direc-
tor of tennis at the North Hampton Valley Tennis Club in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and is a certified graduate of the Den: nis Van Der Meer Tennis Academy. Lee has won many local tournaments and is one of the top rated players in our area. Cade has taught for many years at various private and public tennis facilities in the Cape May County area. He has won several singles and doubles championships both locally and in New York State. George is also currently active with the recreation department of Wildwood. THE JUNIOR Development program is designed to promote interest in tennis among the younger members of the community. The program consists of a one-hour group lesson on Saturday mornings which gives students the advantage of developing their skills at an earfy age. Students 7 and older may enroll in the program . Since tennis is now becoming one of the more popular interscholastic sports, the benefits of early exposure will give the Junior Development students at Jersey Cape an advantage. The program is designed to teach the basic skills needed to play tennis as well as theory and game strategies. THE MOST important goal, however, is to promote a healthy attitude toward tennis and all sports activities. Tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed for lifetime, and the Junior Development program at the club is designed to give the students early exposure to tennis and practice of the skills that are necessary to enjoy the sport.
Volleyball Chapter Formed CAPE MAY - A South Jersey region of the United States Volleyball Association has set up a local chapter. USVBA Commissioner Mark Hatten recently appointed teacher/musician Rick Ferrante of Cape May as deputy commissioner for South Jersey of the Garden Empire region. Ferrante, a 10-year veteran of the sport and captain of the Cape May League championship team, Lighting Dimensions, cited the need for official recognition and organization of the sport in the area. "VOLLEYBALL in South Jersey has two key needs at the moment — team sponsors and sites where weekend tournaments can be held," said Ferrante. Sponsors obtain a lot of exposure, declared Pete Kakoyannis, owner of Lighting Dimensions and sponsor of the champion- i ship team. | a Sponsors, teams, < schools, players, and per- < sons having access to gym i facilities are asked to con- < tact Ferrante at 884-2438.
