Academy Students Net $400
ERMA — Students at South Jersey Christian Academy raised more than $400 for the March of Dimes in that charity's 1964 Read-A-Thon. Some 28 students at the school participated. They read a total of 588 books, and raised $412.50. The children raise the funds by asking friends,
relatives, and neighbors to pledge a certain amount of money for each book they read. Each child seeks out his or her own sponsors who then decide how much money they will pledge for each book the child reads. YOUNGSTERS raising the most money at South Jersey Christian this year were Jessica Stewart, who
raised $76, followed by Clarissa Ricketts at $72.50 and Joseph Bevilacqua at $63.75. Jessica also read the greatest number of books, 60, during the Read-A-Thon. Joseph was second with 55 books, and Michael Todd was third with 50 books. This is the second year that the Academy students have participated in the Read-A-Thon. South Jersey Christian is a K-7 evangelical Christian elementary school, and is housed in the Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Seashore Road here.
