Combination Tours At Thanksgiving

CAPE MAY - Over Thanksgiving Weekend, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) is sponsoring a special program of Combination Trolley/Physick Estate Tours and Walking Tours of the city, as well as the first local screening of the film Joe and Maxi. Offering visitors an overview of Cape May's "gingerbread" architecture, Combination Trolley/Physick Estate Tours are scheduled Friday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. and noon; Saturday, Nov. 24, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.,; and Sunday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. and noon. THEY BEGIN at the

Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., with an hour -long guided trolley tour that covers both the East End and West End Historic Districts. In MAC'S heated, enclosed trolley-bus, trained guides point out landmark buildings and regale visitors with accounts of Cape May's heyday as a Victorian seashore resort. Upon returning to the estate, visitors are guided through the interior of the Physick House. This 16-room mansion was designed by renowned architect Frank F urn ess. Built in 1881 in the Stick Style, it has been restored as a Victorian House Museum. Its interior contains niifcfon/linn ovomnloc nf w of

Eastlake-style furnishings and fixtures as well as collections of costumes, toys, and artifacts. ENDING THE combination tour on a festive note, visitors are served hot cider and goodies in the Physick House kitchen. Tickets are on sale at the entrance to the Physick House. No reservations are necessary. Walking Tours of the Historic District are offered Saturday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. These tours are especially designed for those who like history close-up and in detail. Each Walking Tour takes aobut 14 hours and begins at the Information Booth at the head of the Washington Street Mall (at Ocean Street). Friday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m., the film Joe and Maxi will be shown at the Baptist Church Hall, Guerney Street, at Columbia Avenue. This awardwinning documentary by local film-maker Maxi Cohen explores her ambivalent relationship with her father - just as they learn he is dying of cancer. .Set in and around Cape May Harbor (where Mr. Cohen operated a fishing company), this film has been hailed by critics as "touching, 'engrossing, brave and courageous," and "a beautiful, loving film". MAC is presenting the film at its first Cape May screening.
