11-5 Record Tops Men's Volleyball

CAPE MAY - Whippoor will Campground remained in first place with an 11-5 record by winning three of four Men's Power Volleyball games in the last two matches against Lighting Dimensions and The Potter. The setting of Bill Holt and the spiking of Steve Faragher were instrumental in Whippoorwill's conquest. Pete Kakoyannis and John Wilsey excelled for Lighting Dimensions, particularly in their 19-7 overtime win in game two. Against Potter, Whippoorwill took the lead and ran with it in game one. Good, clean playing by Bryan Lihou and Bill Holt resulted in a 15-9 effortless win. POTTER INCHED in front of Whippoorwill in Game Two, behind the enthusiastic digs of Tom Roth and the well-placed spikes of Bob Jackson and Stu Cohen. Scott Hiller also dropped and ball over the net for an important side out. Potter started to broaden its lead (12-9) as Whippoorwill's Steve Faragher couldn't penetrate the block of Potter's Jim McKinley and Tom Roth. Whippoorwill started to put together its offense in game three. Nice saves off the net by Bill Holt kept

Whippoorwill out in front as Potter stayed close on their heels with excellent spikes by Scott Hiller. But Whippoorwill perse rvered and took the game, 15-11. In game four the Potters found their enthusiasm as they took a commanding 12-5 lead. Stu Cohen and Bob Jackson's blocking, and Tom Roth's sets to spiker Scott Hiller could not miss. With Potter leading, 13-7, Whippoorwill

found its game and won, 15-13. Faunce Enterprises and Potter split their recent match, with each team taking two games. Faunce took control of game one, despite perfect sets by Potter's Tom Roth to hitter Jim McKinley. Faunce's Andy Butler and Jack Costello was always there for the blocks, and Jerry Miller for the digs, as Faunce prevailed, 15-9.

POTTER JUMPED out to a big 9-1 lead in game two as Potter's Joe Halasz blocked Faunce's Andy Butler's spikes perfectly, limiting the team to a three-point game in a 15-3. victory. Potter played nearflawless ball again in game three for another quick, big win, 15-5. Excellent net coverage by Stu Cohen and Bob Jackson were the keys. Faunce seemed to turn it around, jumping in front, 11-4, over Potter as Andy Butler's spikes continually Scored. Potter came back ^to take a temporary, 12-11, lead but the perfect serves of Dexter Faunce carried Faunce to the win. Lighting Dimensions rebounded from its loss to Whippoorwill to defeat Faunce in three of four games. Faunce was the definite aggressor in game one as spikes by Andy Butler were consistently on the mark. Lighting teamwork wasn't there and the hitters couldn't connect as Faunce took the game easily, 15-11. FAUNCE AGAIN jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in game two, highlighted by a great save by George Butler and perfect blocks by Mark Yourison. At that point the lead clanged several times as Lighting Dimensions put it together. Ted Ferrante setting spiker John Wilsey garnered crucial points, and the perfect blocks of Rick Fe trance stopped important volleys by Faunce. Lighting prevailed, 15-13. In game three, Ted Ferrante and John Wilsey were still clicking as Lighting took a comman--^ding, (12-8 lead. Perfect blocking by Lighting's Willj\RJ«rino and Pete Kakoyannis stopped Faunce's Mark Yourison and George Butler. Lighting took game three, 15-11. Lighting took the initial lead in game four, with Faunce close on its heels until the very end. Bill Abadie's excellent net plays and Ted Ferrante's perfectly-placed spikes may have been the little extra edge that Lighting needed to take game four, 15-13.
