Waves Outclassed In Women's V'ball
CAPE MAY - Muscle World eclipsed the U.S. Coast Guard Waves in women's power volleyball, 13-15, 16-14, 15-6, 15-11. Game one between J.T. Builders and the Lobster House was no contest. Jan MacKenzie's perfect sets to Cheryl Giddis for the killer spikes were too much for J.T. as the Lobsters cruised, 15-3, and began a fourgame whitewash. In the second game, Lobster House again jumped out to an early lead which it never relinquished, behind the fine defense of Margaret Oleksiak and nice serves by Laura Houben. GAME THREE started out nip and tuck, but midway through the match Patty Komar's excellent serves and Jan MacKenzie's brilliant sets broke the game open, 15-7. Lobster completed its sweep of J.T.'s behind the great bumps of Margaret Oleksiak to Cheryl Giddis,
and the super all around play of Patty Komaf and Jan MacKenzie. Middle Recreation took complete control of game one over Kona Women and coasted to an easy, 15-3 score. Middle Rec's Jan Seer, with leaping spikes, and Barb Hans ill's precise sets, led Middle to victory. 15-3. The girls continued their fine play to snare all four games. Game two saw the excellent sets of Robin Gilbert and the all-court hustle of Peg Arnold leading Middle Rec to another easy win, 15-5. Game three was a much closer match. Kona's Lisa Marcolongo's pin-point serve kept the match close but Middle^ duo of Gwyn Williams and Debbie Brett ended the match with their all around good play, 15-8. In the final game, Peg Arnold's hustling defense and Robin Gilbert's superb sets to Jan Seer for great
spikes led Middle Rec to an easy sweep of JCona IN THE OPENING game between Kona Women and J.T. Builders, Kona's Shirley Ludman's hustle and Lorraine's Taylor's net play were the keys to victory as Kona rebounded from an earlier loss to stun J.T., 15-13, 15-6, 15-10, 15-6. Game two was highlighted by the consistent bumps of Gwen Werner and nice spikes by Lisa Marcolongo. Kathy Strury had some nice serves. Kona's Mia Marcolongo and sister Lisa paced their team with their net play, along with Kathy Strury 's defense. In the final game, Kona continued its excellent play by sweeping J.T., 15-6. Kona was paced by the net play of Shirley Ludman . and the hustle of Lorraine Taylor. Harvey's Lounge bested the Needlere II with a three-game sweep. Harvey's fell behind early, 3-0, but rallied behind the pinpoint serves of Lorraine
Hold and the nice setting of Barb Bakley to Terri Taylor to coast to an easy win, 15-3. THE NEXT GAME featured some powerful spikes by Sharon Mericle, beautiful sets by Sheri Hickok, and great net play by Jan Kellaway as Harvey's won, 15-4. The third game was a see-saw battle early. lone Laffey kept Kona close, but Jan Kellaway's spikes and nice sets by Sheri Hickok and Barb Bakely were the difference. Harvey's completed the sweep in the final game, 15-6, behind Terri Taylor's fine serves and super spikes by Sharon Mericle and Lorraine Holt. Standing! CG Recruit Graduates CAPE MAY - Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Daniel R. Fay, son of Daniel Fay Jr. of Sea Isle City, was graduated from Coast Guard recruit training. Fey attended the eightweek training at the Coast Guard Training Center here. Among the subjects he studied were first aid, Coast Guard history and seamanship, communications, damage control firefighting and physical conditioning. A 1984 graduate of Vineland High School, he joined, the Coast Guard in April 1984. Oprandy In Netherlands VILLAS — Air Force Aii> man 1st Class Tricia A. Oprandy, daughter of Caroline Zmirak and stepdaughter of Frank Zmirak of 110 Cedardale Ave., has arrived for duty at Camp New Amsterdam, Netherlands. Oprandy, a mental health specialist with the 32nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, was previously assigned at Keesier Air Force Base, _ Miss. She is a 1982 graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School.
