CHRISTMAS IN CAPE MAY 1984
Christmas Is Family Matter
CAPE MAY - The Brass Bed at 719 Columbia Avenue is one of the charming inns that will be induded on Cottages on Christmastime tours during December. Built as a family summer home in 1872, the inn has been restored by John and Donna Dunwoody and their children.
A VICTORIAN children's Christmas is celebrated at The Brass Bed with decorations traditional to the Victorian period and the Dunwoody family. The Christmas tree decorations include those used in the 18th and 19th centuries as well as throughout the Dunwoody family history.
Many of the glass ornaments have been in the family for over fifty years. The popcorn on the tree is strung by the children and friends of the family, a tradition for many years. • THE TOYS under the tree are a sampling of the kind found by delighted children for a century; train buffs will especially enjoy the mid-1900 Lionel Electric. The dollhouse in the parlor is the pride and joy of Mary Kate Dunwoody, who made many of the furnishings.

' Each year The Victorian Rose celebrates the holiday season by blossoming with , floral decorations, particularly the rose. Guests are especially • welcome to celebrate the joys and beauties w>f the holiday season at The Vic- , torian Rose. Victorian Welcome CAPeAiAY - Aptly named after the dominant figure of the Victorian era, The Queen Victoria at 102 Ocean St., will be welcoming visitors during Cottages at Christmastime tours. Christmas is the favorite season at The Queen Victoria. It was Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, who popularized his native German festivities among English-speaking peoples a century ago. THE QUEEN Victoria decorates to show three different periods of Victorian Christmas festivities, with an early Victorian tree decorated mainly with foodstuffs, a mid-Victorian tree filled with toys and gifts, and a turn-of-the-century tree decked with store-bought ornaments and cards. Christmas Bloomer What makes the poinsettia plant bloom at Christmastime? It seems to favor short days and long nights and that season happens to be around Christmas ! Were it to bloom profusely all year around, in most of our countries, it wouldn't be so special for Christmas! The poinsettia adds a bright, cherry splash at this special season of joy!
