A SPECIAL meeting of Slone Harbor Borough /"Council was called On Nov. 20 to gather further input from merchants and residents on the proposed , 9 mercantile tax It was heavily attended by an orderly group of con-

cerned citizens. Mayor Arden Hand and the entire Council gave full attention

to each suggestion and every question. The meeting moved

swiftly and completely without rancor. After two and a half hours of reasonable discussion, Council again decided that the motion should be tabled until a group of eight persons could hold another f meeting to discuss the / merits of the tax. Hie group includes two g members from the « Chamber of Commerce, T two from Borough Council, two from ROA and 'two from the newly-formed Merchants' Association, separate from the Chamber of Commerce. Councilmen who will serve on the committee are Eric J. Arenberg and Kenneth Hawk. From C. of C, Jim Fisher and Pat Wolf; from Realty Owner's Association, Ellie Spitz and ; Nancy Ritchie; and from <s the Merchants' Associa- \ tion, Bob Rich and Audrey , Hardy who owns the Olive 7 Tree. The special meeting of this group was cancelled because of the sudden death of Councilman Arenberg's mother. As a result, the motion was put off until the next meeting of Council in 1985. AVALON'S BEST Decorated House contest will be held Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Only registered homes or businesses will be reviewed, so call Community Hall and register your address.
