["Helping Hand For The Holidays
During this holiday season, The Herald and Lantern is once again publishing a list of needs /—-of. various organizations in / Cape May County. They represent but a few of many such organizations that help people
in various ways throughout the year. Illness — problems — hardships can strike at any time. During this season of the year, readers wishing to send dona-
tions can learn about the services of some of the worthwhile organizations that help their fellow man. While financial help is always needed — there are other ways
to give of one's self — volunteer time, food, toys, clothing, small personal items. These can say to another human being, "Here is my Helping Hand. You are not alone. ' -Libby Demp Forrest

Much of the pleasure of giv- I ing comes from shopping for I just the right gift. But, elderly 1 people confined to nursing I homes are not always able to go gift shopping - nor can their i budgets stretch enough to buy 1 thoughtful remembrances. s Employees of Sturdy Savings 1 and Loan have placed boxes at i the bank's five branches in No. I Cape May, Avalon, Stone Har- I bor, Dennisville and Court < House for community donations of gift items. Bank I employees will take the items i
area nursing homes where they will be displayed for residents to make selections of charge. Toys, books, stationary, 1'ewelry, perfume, handmade ;eepsakes, and trinkets are of the items thqt can be at the banks. The Eastern Shore Nursing Home in Swainwill be the first recipient of this month's collections. Bank employees plan to provide year-round snopping at a different nursing home each month.

The gift of volunteer time spent at a nursing home helps keep elderly residents in touch with familiar faces. Little chats and caring attentions provide a bridge to the world outside nursing nome windows. Residents of the Lutheran Home as well as nursing homes throughout the area also enjoy items such as quilted slippers, magnifying glasses, shoe laces, clear nail polish, combs, hair-
brushes, toothpaste and toothbrushes, tissues, dusting powder, thigh high elastic top stockings, knee socks, electric pre-shave, men's socks, denture toothbrushes, and gray hairnets. The first need at nursing homes is people — visitors ana volunteers wno can spend an hour or two with elderly residents, offering friendship and cheer.
