Kay -Dieffenderfer was s the guest of honor at a re- c cent luncheon given by the Wildwood Civic Club at the Whitebrier Inn in Avalon. 1 Twenty ladies attended the t get-together to- celebrate ' Dieffenderfer s birthday. 1 which was Nov. 3. I It was an enjoyable afternoon and an excellent i social get-together, but j alas, dear readers. Kay I Dieffenderfer's age was I not revealed However, i that is not to say that the date is unknown, a little i birdie from the Civic Club spilled the beans, and when she least expects it — maybe next year. Kay! I NOTICED that Lisa Fligier. among others, has been recognized in achieving First Honors at Wildwood High School This outstanding achievement. however, does not even approach the accomplishments of this extraordinary student Recently admitted into the Rutger s University Scholar Program, Lisa is a young lady of intense com mitment and tremendous drive. Listed in Who's Who of America's High School Students. Fligier is no stranger to academic excellence and involvement. She is the co-editor of the WHS Yearbook, is the editor of the high school Literary Journal. Fligier also serves as president of The Wildwood High School Honor Society and is a member of tljf Human Relations Committee, the Reading Break Club and is active in the high school Math League ^ / Fligier is planning a career as a teacher, which is a very comforting thought as this writer is the father of two small boys and such dedication to the educational professions is appreciated. Fligier's younger sister Kim is. also a student at r Wildwood High School and certainly possesses many of the same admirable traits. To top it off. both
sisters are genuinely delightful young ladies! THERE IS news from Township.! No, not that f^art of Lower Township that straddles Bayshore Road, but that little . part of Lower Township at the southernmost tip of Five Mile Beach adjoining Wildwood Crest that absolutely no tourist belongs to another community! Rumors have been circulating that two new stores will shortly be constructed in this "wee bit" of Lower with the identity crisis. It seems as though an Eckerd brags is coming and a 7-11 is proposed The Eckerd Drugs is slated to be built on the north side of the law office complex situated in the 9900 block, and the 7-11 seems as though it will appear on the south side of the present MidLantic Bank < Union Trust, for those of you who cannot get psed to the name switch) FOR 15 YEARS the Greater Wildwood Model Railroad Club has opened its doors during the holiday season to all interested area residents This year is no exception and this elaborate display should be on everyone's list of thing to do during the season The display, located at 135 West Burk Ave., will be open to the public every Thursday evening from 7:30 through 9. A minimal donation is requested to help defray the expenses of the open house and the members ask that all / children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult, which should be no problem, as the display is equally enjoyable for all ages SOURCES WITHIN the Wildwood Water Department indicate that the recent "hard-line" approach to delinquent consumers has paid off for all concerned. The infusion of revenue generated through the payment of delinquent bills should be sufficient to*
stabilize the water billing rates for some time. Preliminary indications were that a rate increase was imminent. However, with the delinquencies reduced to acceptable levels the Water Department seems more stable than ever. That's good news! Effective Jan. 1, 1985. basic cable service will be increased by S15 per year. This $1.25 cent per month increase enacted by the Wildwood -based Group W. Cable will bring the monthly rate for basic subscription to $8. Adopted by the PUC, the rate increase will be reflected in every Islander's next billing. Hopefully, a portion of the rate increase will be directed at rebuilding the existing system, as the system spanning Five Mile Beach is one of the oldest to
