Ahhh, the Christinas notes that have to be sent ... the cookies we'd like to bake ... the presents that haveta be purchased, then wrapped ... time marches on. % • • • The Winter Solstice occurs at 11:23 A.M. EST next Friday, December 21. Ihus, we will reach the shortest day and the longest night of the year. We'll be telling you more about this annual occurrence next week. v*> * * • . Also coming up next week is Hanukfeah, the Festival of Lights celebrated by the Jews for eight days starting Tues., - Dec. 18. It is one of the happiest holidays woven into the traditions of the Jewish I people; placing the Hanukkah lights in the nine-branched menorah. i It is customary to serve La tkes during Hanukkah, delicious pancake fried to 4 golden brown perfection. Draidel games are traditional fun for children and grownups, too during Hanukkah. The Draidel is a four-sided top, with a thumb-piece at the top for spinning it around on the pointed tip.
