Mews Notes from- r Seven Mile Beach M'Ellen Rowland 368-2294
Whatever Floss (Mrs. Arthur) Atwood of 404 98th St. does, is done with a touch of elegance, and that was demonstrated at the cocktail buffet she gave at the Whitebrier Dec. 6. About 70 of her friends were wined and dined at separate tables. We don't think Floss ever sat down herself. At all times she moved from table to table ensuring that her guests' every wish was being met. What a heavenly way to kick off the merry season! Saturday, Dec. 6, was also the night of the dinner dance given by the AvalonStone Harbor Post 331 of the American Legion. Food
for the roast beef bash was prepared by Senior Vice Commander Bob Michaels except for hors d'oeuvres supplied by the gals. Commander Jim Daniel and his wife Gayle decorated the hall inside and out with green garlands intertwined with lights. All decorations were natural, so it even smelled like an old fashioned Christmas. Commander Jim acquired a terrific duo, Lori and Luther Cesar ( regulars at the Irishman's Pub in Wildwood), and they really made the party take off. We were congratulating Gayle on the success of the affair which she attributed to an all-out effort by all
post members. Incidentally we learned for the first time that eight years ago at this time, both Gayle and Jim were in the hospital recovering from a plane . crash. She said "each year, * at this time, we remember to be grateful for the blessing of being alive." MON.. DEC. 10, Stone Harbor was like a scene from Babes in Toyland. It was the night for the traditional tree-lighting ceremony. Starting at the Elementary School, the students under the direction of Cynthia Banik produced the equivalent of an off-Broadway production. With the background of a 26-member chorus narrator Tracy Taylor and Father Time (Matt Ault) acted out a Computerized Christmas. Greg Martin was the voice of the computer as Father Time tried vainly to get Santa on the scene. He incorrectly punched out Wanda the Witch (Sheila DiMarco), George Washington (Jim Musumeci), Easter Bunny (Jerome Licata), before he made a perfect printout i
and Jim Musumeci arrived as Santa Claus. Jane and Carey Boss (he's president of the S.H. Seniors) and Gene and Ruth (he's the bridge whiz) teamed up to give an afterglow party at the Fishers' home following the treelighting ceremony Dec. 10. There were gallons of clam bisque and bourbon soup to warm the chilled, and enough finger foods to feed an army. These two couples always come up with something special. Who could forget the trip to the party along 96th Street and 3rd Avenue, surrounded on both sides by white-lighted Christmas trees? Those plus the festively decorated shops turned the town into a veritable fairyland. Winding up with a hearty eat-in with friends dressed in comfortable rather than chic clothing — both couples have a direct line to the weather man —
never have we known it to rain on one of their parades. THE AVALON Senior Citizens' Organization annual Christmas luncheon at the Golden Inn was simply super! Jack Bert and Hal Hall of 42nd Street. This was serendipity for sure. Turned out they were great friends of friends of ours here, Becky and Russ Bailey and Marie and Jim ^ Wood'. The three couples winter near each other in Florida and have the Herald mailed to them to keep abreast of news here. Also they're friends of people we've known and loved for years in the Norristown, Pa. area. . The program arranged by Pauline Sprowles couldn't have been better! I Jayne Reddie accomi panied a 24-member chorus i on the piano. Stars were: ; baritone soloist Pastor (Page 23 Please)
