r—THE FIRST CHRISTMAS — ! By VINEY ENDICOTT Oh, Blessed Mary, young and fair, So grateful for the soft, warm hay With Joseph and his loving care Remembering Her weary day. The shepherds kneeling where the child, So close to Mary's tepder heart have sensed His majesty though mild And praised God He had made them part Of aU that happened here tonight. Far from the crowded Inn where none Had heard the choir or seen the light, Much less had known God's will was done. That Mary's babe one day would free All men who truly know His worth, And through His death on Calvary Make all men brothers on this earth.

Spiders Wove Yule Legend . . One piece of legend tells that one Christmas morning as the trimmed tree stood in all its splendor awaiting the children, some little spiders admired the beauty also. TTiey wanted to see the tree not just from up high on the wall — they wanted a closer look. So the spiders crept over the tree until their wonder was satisfied. As they crept, they left a trail of spider webs. According to the tale, when the Christ Child came to bless the tree, as he touched the webs, they all turned to silver. So it has come about that Christmas trees are hung with shining tinsel.
