The entire population of Cape May County — 86,000 — represents but one area of Ethiopia where starvation stalks hundreds of thousands cf refugees. Critical drought and famine aggravated by continued border fighting between Ethiopian and Somali forces kill both young and old by starving them to death. Earlier this year CROP events in Cape May County, including a "fast", marathon run. and a CROP walk raised
$3,000 toward CROP programs. $317 came back into Cape May County to be used for hunger here. Financial gifts to CROP, a church Vflated agency, and other organizations spearheading drives to feed the starving are providing relief in this massive effort. The Herald & Lantern will be glad to supply readers with additional organizations that are helping feed starving people distant from Cape May County.

"People here aren't starving. We hope we can keep it that way, " according to Rev. John M. Fleming, of St. Casimir's Catholic Church, Woodbine, where one of the food cupbaords in Cape May County is located. Other food cupboards are at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Wildwood; St. Peter's Methodist Church, Ocean City; and First Presbyterian Church, Cape May as well as at other local churches. While people here may not be starving, there are days each month when
many people who "fall through the cracks'' may not get enough to eat. Food Stamp recipients who must work can go to one of the centers or transients looking for work can go to one of the centers for canned goods, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly. Financial as well as gifts of canned food, cereals, clothing and commodities such as toilet paper, soap, and toothpaste are always needed. Recipients also enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables, and loaves of bread.
