Landfill, Station Taking Waste Free
To help alleviate the problem of illegal dumping, which has grown in recent years, the county Municipal Utili t Le s Authority is acceptrog waste at its sanitary landfill in Woodbine and its Transfer Station in Burleigh if the waste is delivered in an automobile. According to Theodore O'Neill, MUA solid waste manager, both solid waste facilities have accepted idVilllllcs lidve dt-v-c^jicu
carloads of trash at no cost to the customer since they were opened earlier this I year, but many residents I and visitors have not taken I advantage of this public service. •ALTHOUGH only carloads of trash are accepted free of charge, the /cost of disposal for a pickyp truck ranges from apI proximately $5 to $15," O'Neill stated. Although the cost of disposal is not always free, it is relatively cheap. Therefore, the county Municipal Utilities Authority, the county Public Works Assocition and the Board of Chosen Freeholders urges everyone to join in with the "STOW IT" Anti-Litter Campaign and dispose of waste properly. Waste can be disposed of at the Sanitary Landfill and Transfer Station during the following hours : SANITARY Landfill: Monday — Friday, 8 a.m. -4 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-l p.m. Sunday, closed. Transfer Station: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. -12 noon; Sunday, closed. According to Ed Ayers, President of the county Public Works Association and assistant county road l supervisor, the frequency \ of illegal dumping and J roadside litter has v escalated dramatically ' during the past several ; years. r "JUST TAKE a ride down any secluded dirt J er road in the county and you ' / are almost certain to find a r load of trash which was ^ dumped illegally," Ayers stated.
The problem of illegal dumping is not new, he said. It has been occurring for many years. Public apathy, increases in population and the rising cost of properly disposing of waste have all contributed to the recent intensification of this problem, Ayers declared. For further information, contact Ayers at 886-1300 or Diane Leonik at 465-9026.
Swiss Sleigh Pulls Angel
Instead of reindeer pullI ing Santa's sleigh, in Switzerland six reindeer draw a lovely angel with a sleigh full of Christmas trees, apples and goodies.
