■News Notes from r The Wildwoods Thomas Parsons 729-5768
SAD NEWS WITH the untimely passing of restaurant eur and nightclub owner, Luigi Scarlata. Hie owner of Luigi's and the Quo Vadis Lounge, Scarlata, has been a civic activist for many years and his heart was always open for a good cause. "Luigi" will be sadly missed by many, many islanders! another MCDONALD'S is coming to North Wildwood! No, not the billionaire burger barons of international acclaim, but Jhe McDonalds of Cape May - Jetty Restaurant fame. Craig and Dotty Garrabrant have recently sold their very popular restaurant, "Garrabrant's I" to the McDonalds. The Garrabrant's have a long history of astute restaurant management and they have carved a very noteworthy niche in the restaurant- annals of Five Mile Peaen. We are sorry to see the Garrabrimts stepping out of the restaurant business, but by tWLsame token, we welcome Ln« McDonalds as they step imo the wacky world of the Wildwoods for the season of 1985. Best of luck to both families. • • • RUMORS ARE RAMPANT as to who will be what as the new Wildwood City administration takes shape under newly elected Mayor Vic DiSylvester. DiSylvester, the victor in the recall election over former Mayor Earl Ostrander brings to City Hall the same degree of intensity exhibited by Ostrander, but espousing a different political, persuasion. Best wishes to DiSylvester and his soon-to-be appointees as they reshape the government in the continuing process of governmental reconstruction enacted by the Wildwood voters when they elected to become a Faulkner Act community in 1982. WILDWOOD'S GALA Christmas Parade turned out to be more than expected as many parade attendees continued with the festivities by joining in on an imprompt "block party." The very popular Hoffnagle Band played and the spirited crowds danced in the streets as the Christmas season was officially brought to the Wildwoods. Thanks again to the Greater Wildwood Jaycees and the Wildwood Merchant's Association for their efforts in bringing this enjoyable parade to • the Wildwoods. WANT TO SHARE your Christmas abundance? Visit the McDonalds at Rio Grande and Park Boulevard, and take a look j at their "Love Tree". | Unquestionably one of the finest Christmas ideas I've ever seen, the "Love Tree" decked with a myriad of ornaments listing a child, either "boy" or "girl" with his age. You are asked to remove an ornament, purchase a gift of your choice, suitable for a child the age listed on "your" ornament. You then return the ornament with the gift to McDonalds t
and right before Christmas, McDonald's staff will deliver the "present" to a needy area child. Excellent idea and "hats off to you, McDonalds!" ALSO IN A COMMUNITY service vein, the Wildwood Crest Ambulance "Corps recently ordered a new transport ambulance to add to its fleet of emergency vehicles. That brings the total for this very activ£ organization to three fullyequipped emergency vehicles and one four-wheel-drive emergency vehicle with more heavy dutv rescue equipment
. than you could possibly imagine! while many people, for many years, have proposed the merging of municipal functions for the three Wildwoods, at least the seperation has produced an unequalled level of emergency care equipment. With Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, and North Wildwood all maintaining their own fire and rescue ! snyads, we probably have rfrore rescue equipment than any other community in the country on a per capita basis. While it is not very cost effective, I suppose, at
least when the emergency arises the equipment is always ready to serve you, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. y ATTENDED THE NORTH Wildwood Faculty/School Board Annual Dinner at the Golden Inn Dec. 7. Also using the Golden Inn as the host site ' was the Crest faculty and distinguished Wildwood Crest Board members. It was a delightful evening with all enjoying the holiday cheer and festive atmosphere. Conversation was abundant and enough "stuff" to fill this column for eons was overheard, but with discretion being the better part of valor (my wife teaches at Margaret Mace) most will go unpublished... sad to say! It was just one of those occasions when you "just had to be there."
