Sews Notes from Seven Mile Beach M'Ellen Rowland T68-2294
Last week we suggested you attend a Christmas Service at St. Paul's R.C Church. We took our own advice and went to the Christmas Eve Mass at 5 p.m. It was extremely beautiful and uplifting. Monsignor Giammarino was his usual joyous self and an added plus was the , impressive singing voice of Father Michael P. Orsi. He has been a pal of ours for some time and he has never suggested that he was gifted with such a talent. What a glorious way to start celebrating our Lord's Birthday! * Connie (Sandpiper Galerie) Sands eave a smashing cocktail buffet on Dec. 23. As her parties always are, this one was a standout because of the excellent, unusual foods and many new faces. Many were familiar, to be sure: Herman Kapp helped carve the ham; Bill (Pancake House) Donohue helped eat it; Ellen (Irish Pavillion) Vaughn mingled; Scrooge Cieiland dispensed ascerbic wit as his date Joan (Happy Hunt I & II) dispensed charm, Met a newly-retired couple down here, Pat and Eugene Reed of Bayside Village — they had Coast Guard trainees for Christmas as they did at Thanksgiving. They will be an asset to the community. > • • IT'S VERY difficult to write about the death of a new but much admired new but mucn aamireo
friend and a person of national prominence as well. George McClelland Scattergood was a devoted husband and loving father of four .daughters, including Sister' George Marie of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of this community. He was dedicated to every cause which he espoused Among them were: Mid-Jersey Cape Rotary Club, Avalon Senior Citizen's Associa-
tion. Benevolent and Pro- ] tective Order of Elks in , Wildwood, and the Avalon Fishing Club, of which he was president. He was a prolific writer of such works as "The Independent Pharmacy" and was writing yet another book about the responsibilities of pharmacists during the last days of his illness. In 1969 he received the Public Service Award from the American Pharmaceutical Association for his consumer education talks. His dear friend Rita
(Mrs. Bruce) Goode was the lay .reader at his Mass of Resurrection at Maris Stella Church on Dec. 24. He was a perfectionist who sought it first in himself. Letters of sympathy may be addressed to his widow, Frances C. Scattergood at Shore Memorial Hospital. Donations in his memory should be made to the relief of famine in Africa.
