City Lists Winter Activity Programs

CAPE MAY - The city started its winter recreation schedule this past week. The schedule, wnich consists of 47 different programs, is the largest to date. The winter schedule runs through March 17. Several

of the classes have limited openings available. The Super Saturday program is designed to be both educational and entertaining. It is a fun-filled morning of games, crafts, movies and swimming. TTiis program is held every Saturday 10 a.m.-12 at the Elementary School. THE KARATE program is being taught by Ken Farrell. He currently holds a red belt, which is one step from 1st Degree Black Belt. Karate instruction is provided for beginners to advanced students. Classes are available for youths and adults. < Classes are held 5-8 p.m. at the Elementary School on Monday and Friday. Wednesday classes are held at the Franklin Street Civic Center 6-8 p.m. Limited sign-ups are also available for our Square Dance program. This course will encompass the rudiments of basic square dancing and round dancing, f ' Jim Hendrqc will be the instructor and the class will be held Mondays 8-10 p.m. at Convention Hall. A COMPREHENSIVE Gymnastics program geared toward beginners and intermediate students * will be offered to coeds 5 to 18 years old. The program will be taught by John Wilsey and will be held every Wednesday from 5-6 p.m. at the Franklin Street Civic Center. A number of swimming programs are also available for registration. The Adult Learn to Swim program is a basic course designed to teach the beginner to swim and serve as a review for the accomplished swimmer, f This class is available to I coeds 14 and older. It will be held on Mondays 6-7 p.m. at i the Elementary School. . , The Infant swim class is i available to infants 2 years old and younger. This class j is designed to educate parents as well as infants on basic survival skills in the ' water. The classes are held Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30-5 p.m. at the j Elementary School. 1 THE TINY TOT program covers the very basics of water adjustment for boys r and girls. This class is for •• children 3-5 year| old. The classes are Wednesday and Friday 5-5:30 and 5:30-6 p.m. A Saturday class is 9-10

a.m. All classes are held at the Elementary School pool. The American Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving course will be offered to coeds 15 years and older. This course will include pool work and classroom instruction on which students will be tested at the aid of the course. The class is held Saturdays 12-3 p.m. at the Elementary School. The Scuba class that is being offered is a NAUI course which is nationally certified and consists of 32 hours of instruction plus two final dives. Students must be 12 years old. The class will give the swimmer a proper introduction to equipment use and the ocean environment. It will be held Tuesdays 6:30-10:30p.m. at the Elementary School

A BOYS AND girls Diving Class for ages 6 to 17 consists of instruction in all phases of beginning and intermediate diving. The class will be held .at the Elementary School Monday ^6 p.m. The Senior Citizens Swim Clinic is a program that will provide instruction and analysis of swimming strokes and techniques for each individual. This is a new course taught by Sam Hall that is designed specifically for Senior Citizens. It will be held Monday 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Elementary School. NAACP Meeting To Be Monday COURT HOUSE - Plans for Black History Week will be discussed at the next meeting of the Cape May County Chapter of the NAACP 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the County Library here. For more information, contact Dorothy Mack at 465-5736. J Flower Show Trip Planned WILDWOOD CREST - The Wildwood Crest Republican Club will sponsor a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show . Tuesday, March 5. The bus will leave Crest Pier at 8 a.m. and leave the flower show at 3 p.m. For information and reservations call 522-6359. Theater Group To Cast Play COURT HOUSE - Auditions for the play, "Night of January 16th," will be held by the Jersey Cape Performing Arts group between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, and Thursday, Jan. 24. The auditions will be held at Court House Elementary School 3 on Route 9. Men and woman between ages 25 and 55 are being sought. The director is Adrianna Warner, drama and theater instructor at Atlantic Community College, who also directed at Cider Mill Playhouse in Endicott, N.Y.

Lions Dance Set Jan. 26 v STONE HARBOR - The Lions Club .will hold its annual dance to bennefit the Helen Diller Home for the Blind on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the Avalon Recreation Center. Tony Vicola and "The Better Set" will provide music. There will be door prizes and a cash bar. Tickets can be purchased by calling 967-5000 or 368-3311.

Discounts Are Senior Topic CAPE MAY - The Cape May Senior Citizens Club will meet 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, in the auditorium of Victorian Towers. Michael Lehmen will talk on "Golden Age Discount". A discount brochure will be available for local and near-by shops. The club will hold a card and bingo party Feb. 12 at Victorian Towers.
