^ews Notes from Seven Mile Beach M'Ellen Rowland 168-2294

Great news for Sevenmile Beachers! Don Sheneman, who owns the Exxon Center at 94th Street and 3rd Avenue in Stone Harbor has applied for and received all permits necessary to operate a taxi service from his garage facility. He has already purchased one Lincoln limousine and the second is on order. By the time you read this column business will be bubbling on the front burner Taxi anyone0 Call: 368-3542. It was Stone Harbor's Dick Reese who discovered the 250-lb.. 8-foot plus long mammel stranded on the beach Jan. 14. He called Stone Harbor Police and wife Dolores immediately. Dolores is a Jacques Cousteau fan and knew the

dolphin should be covered and kept wet until help arrived. This she, and house guest Pam Swan and Rich Kowal, did until personnell from Brigatine's Stranding Center arrived. The mammel rescue squad loaded the dolphin onto a specially-designed stretcher and quickly transferred her to the center at Brigantine. A saddleback dolphin, rarely seen south of Canada, has never been known to survive beaching, but five days later this one is eating on her own and, God willing, will make it. Channel 10 on your TV gives daily reports. Changes in the Women's Auxiliary of Post 331 of the American Legion f We met new treasurer Jo MacVaugh of 10230 1st Ave. for the first time. She's ob- « viously capable and fun as well. Lou Clelland donated and installed a new trophy case himself, we were told. Very impressive, containing all the trophies the Ludlam Post won in its membership drive last year. Bob Michael is in charge of the Valentine's Day buffet and dance to be held at the Hall Friday, Feb. 15 at 7:15 p.m. The Christmas Party was such a success reservations for this one are limited to 70 persons. Members will be given preference, natch, so i

reserve early by calling Bob at 368-2465. Auxiliary members, don't forget to save your Campbell's and Betty Crocker labels It's the easiest way to swell our treasury and make our quarters so attractive our membership momentum will just keep rolling along. HADN'T SEEN this week's Herald yet when we received a call from John Walters, president of Avalon's Senior Citizens Organization, giving us information we requested re: what to do with Christmas cards received this year. He gave us» the perfect answer. Seems the Sea Isle City chapter of AARP collects cards all year, including birthday, get well etc and sends along the impersonal part to such in- , stitutions as the Seaman's Church Institute, hospitals, schools and other agencies for decopage-<md similar uses. John told us that if people will just push no longer wanted cards into paper bags and deliver them to Community Hall on Seniors' Work Day, the fourth Tuesday every month, personal messages will be removed and the usable part delivered to AARP. Start now to save and make something beautiful result from things which would otherwise be trash. Garden Club o{^ Stone Harbor met Jan. 14 at the Firehouse. Prexy Nancy r Ritchie welcomed new \ members: Mrs. Clarence | Lumley. Mrs. James ' McGuckin. Mrs. S. W. Downer. Mrs. Kathryn Mark, Miss Helen Vance and Dr. Rosabelle Koss. She also applauded the efforts of those responsible for the December auction. The wreath alone raised $80 and auction of gifts donated by members yielded $366. Dates f6r planting islands (which will deplete the treasury) are May 18-21. They'll need all the help they can get Nancy also announced cancella-

tion of the tour of houses on the Delaware on May 24 but a local tour is set for May in its stead. Principal speaker was James Baimus, superintendent of Vwiarton State Forest, including the historic iron works\at Batsto. This is a -nifty plai» to take visitors to thk region. During the Revolutionary War workers here\ • were exempt from military service. Canoing is excellent, history and biology abound and beauty is unsurpassable. Joe Kauterman did our community proud this year's Mummer's Parade! There were six groups in the comic division — his group, "Hammond", was awared first prize, breaking his former group's winning streak. He also lauded Atlantic City's first year appearance Way to go Joey, we'll be glued to TV next year. Peg Grimes of 95th Street just called us to report another story . reflecting tremendous social responsibility on the part of a generation ordinarily designated selfish. Following the last snow storm Peg answered the doorbell and was greeted by young persons who wanted to shovel her driveways and walks. They did a wonderful job and donated the proceeds from their laborto to the family whose home was recently destroyed by fire in Sea Isle City. This is the kind of news we love. > v . - ~\ Feb. 22, ASCO Activities Day at Community Hall, blood presure will be taken at no cost, a variety of I games from bingo to bridge 1 will be played and arts and j crafts will be present from noon 'til 3 p.m. SARA BRADY and Betty White, both of 82nd Street team up annually to give a pepper steak and crab cutlet bash that invitees wouldn't miss if they had to be taken by cabulance. This year their special gim> mick was the invitation. One had to work a crossword puzzel to find the time and location of the party. It was held at Peg Jones' home on "Musical Street plus 10" ( 52nd Street )
