News Notes from The Cape Mays Dolly Stango
Still one of the most beautiful voices in town is newcomer Minette Southard. Watch for this very pretty young lady to blossom out and make us all so very proud of her. I'm glad January is going, February at least perks one up and you think of Valentines! Remember when in school we had those very interesting penny Valentines? Of course you don't, but I do. Looking back, it was such great fun and one was able to send so many Valentines because the cost was so little, including the postage. In the area, there are lots of Valentine affairs planned. Get into the spirit of dressing up and think fun. Decorate your table with a centerpiece for the occasion, make a cake with red and white icing. But most of all, make it a point to enjoy the day, perhaps with lunch out with friends, or lunch in with people you enjoy. FEBRUARY 12th trip to Atlantis Casino is a good deal, sponsored by Star of the Sea Altar and Rosary Society. You get a show and banquet feast. Bus leaves 9 a.m. and Margaret Dalin at 884-4492 will handle your reservations. By the way, Margaret Dalin will also handle your resrvations for the trip to Ireland, June 15 to 23. She has brochures and all details. Call now to make sure you can be together with your friends. The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts in Cape May is doing its utmost to make the month of February a warm-up time! There'll be the Combinalion/Trolley Physick House Tours for the first two Saturdays, Feb. 2 and 9, scheduled for 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. It's a double bargain where you get an hour long guided trolley tour covering both the East and West End Historic Districts in Cape May in the heated, enclosed , trolley-bus. Upon returning to the Physick Estate, visitors are guided through the lavish interior of the mansion, ending up in the kitchen to be served hot cider and goodies. No reservations are necessary. By calling 884-5404 you'll have all questions answered. ALSO EXCITING are the Presidents' Weekend Tours also planned by MAC ( MidAtlantic Center for the Arts ) ; now's a good time to schedule your friends for a weekend of interesting events. The Women's Com munity Club of Cape May is get-
ting it all together too! On their agenda is the Philadelphia Flower Show, Monday, March 4. It's a good idea to get your reservations in early by calling Joan Pecjciconis at 884-2758. The club's scheduled spaghetti dinner is Saturday, March 23, and Helen Brown promises me more information on this as soon as available. Time to wish Shirley Stiles a happy birthday; also to Harry Simms, Mary Conover, Rosie Brown and Elivera Beck. WE'RE SO GLAD Sheritte Johnson is doing well even though he's still hospitalized. West Cape May is not the same without him and all friends and neighbors wish.him a speedy return home. Even though it's far away insofar as our calendar dates, you'll be happy to know that the Rockaway Revue will be coming to Cape May again on Sept. 8, sponsored once again by the GEMS organization. This group of ladies has brought us this treat now for several years and it's always one date we all want to make sure we attend. The Rockaway Revue is made up of seniors, both male and female, and the best singers and dancers ever; plus the audience gets to dance with the entertainers too. This year, I'm not going to be so timid, but get right up there when I'm asked to dance. That alone will be worth seeing, to be sure! IT GOES without saying how everyone's heartfelt wishes go out to the recent fire business people. I mean Ronnie and Greg Giancola of the Texas Market, who have not only served us in the way of business, but were warm friends to us all. Also to Barbara and Norman Hoffman of the Cross winds Apparel Shop next door. Our very special good wishes for their reopening. Their very attractive window displays just made you want to get inside and see more. Memorial services for Blomkvest. father of our mayor, Mickey Blomkvest, was indeed a tribute to the gentleman so many of us knew and liked The family and friends filled the Lutheran Church to capacity, and his widow acknowledged all there with a beautiful smile even though her eyes sparkled with tears. It was a fitting memorial and one to be remembered.
