Rec Slate Upgraded By Lower
VILLAS — Lower Township Manager James R. Stump announced Friday that recreation aide Steve Sorrells has been assigned additional responsibilities for programs at the township Recreation Center here. During the past few months, Stump has fostered repairs to various parks and recreation facilities in the township. Now, he said, more emphasis will be placed on promoting programs for township residents. Sorrells, who holds a bachelor's degree in recreation and who has been with the township for more than a year, will spearhead what Stump called "a new direction." FOUR NEW RECREATION programs have recently been added to the township's list of offerings. A schedule of the new and existing programs follows. All programs will be open to Lower Township residents only and will take place at the Recreation Center. Registration will be handled through the
Recreation Office. Phone registrations will be accepted for these activities. Programs began this week. For more information contact the Recreation Center, Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 6 p.m.-l0 p.m. at 886-7880. The programs are: Senior Exercise Classes (60 or over) every Wednesday and Friday, 1-2 p.m.; Mother and Children's Social Hours, every Tuesday and Thursday. 1-3 p.m.; Employees Exercise Classes, every Wednesday and Friday. Noon to 12:30 p.m ; Teen Night (13-18 years) Saturday 6-10 p.m This program will include tournaments in pool, hockey, pingpong, etc., basketball, volleyball, television, and music THE REMAINDER of the winter schedule follows: Boys' and Girls' Instructional basketball, 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls, Mondays 3-5 p.m.; Boys Basketball League for grades 9-12, 6-8 p.m.; Boys Basketball League Sth-8th grades, Mondays and Wednesdays. 6-8 p.m.; Mens Basketball League. Mondays 8-10 and Tuesday 6-10 p.m. Mens Half Court Basketball. Fridays 8-10 p.m., for men who do not play in the Men's League; Co-ed Basketball; Saturdays 6-8 p.m.; Girl's Basketball League, Wednesdays. 4-8 p.m. Open to all girls in grades 5-8 Women's Basketball. after women's exercise
Thursdays 8-10 p.m . for women 18 and over. Anyone interested in signing up for these programs should call the Recreation Center at 886-7880 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and 6-10 p.m., Monday through Friday. Other activities scheduled are: Women's Exercise. Tuesdays between 1 and 3 p.m. and Thursdays 68 p.m.; Children's Gymnastics, for boys and girls 5-12. Casale's, Cleaners Lead Cage Loops
CAPE MAY — In Junior Youth Basketball League action, Casale's remained in first place as it defeated previously unbeaten Model Cleaners 15-14. Casale's divided scoring evenly as Frank Ramirez had 5 points while Charley Mosby and A.J. Briant had 4 apiece. Cari McGaffney chipped in with an important basket. Model Cleaners were led by their big man, Bill Ackley, who had 8 points, Mike Milliard had 3 points while Man Arscott had a basket. Tony Norris chipped in with a free throw and provided his usual tenacious defense. IN OTHER Junior League action. First Jersey State Bank won its first game of the season as it defeated the Kiwanis Club 15-6. First Jersey had balanced scoring as it was led by Jacob Vernon. who had 6 points and Jerel Tatum, who had 4 points. Trevon Johnson scored 3 points while Dick
Hickner chipped in with a basket. In Senior League action. Model Cleaners remained undefeated, led by their big man, Tommy Reid, who had 15 points. Their point guard Scott Holden provided instant offense with 12 points and some great defense. Aaron Fretz and Joey Norris chipped in with 6 points apiece. Mike Zurawski and Gino Castelleno had 2 points apiece. Casale's was led by point guard Tom Johnson, who scored 14 points. Its big man Matt McGaffney had 7 points and Frank Ramirez had 4 points in a losing cause. IN THE LAST game of the afternoon, the Kiwanis Club won its second game of the season as it defeated First Jersey State Bank 41-40. Kiwanis was led by league-leading scorer Clint Freeman, who had 30 points. Dan Cornell had 5 points while Kevin Freeman and Patrick Dwyer had 4 and 2 points respectively. First Jersey State Bank were led by big men Lee Pierce and Matt Dean, who dominated the boards and scored 17 and 6 points respectively. The guard tandem of Mike Chelius, who had 12 points, and Gary Frazier, who had 5 points, played fine games also.
