Middle Rec Still 1st in Volleyball

CAPE MAY - The Lobster House strengthened its hold on fourth place with a four-game shutout of J.T. Builders in women's power volleyball. The scores were 15-4, 15-2, 15-13 and 15-7. Lobster House took game one behind the talents of Elaine Bennick and Cheryl Giddis. They controlled the serving and defensive chores while Jan MacKenzie supplied the offensive firepower. The serves of Patty Komar and the sets of Marlene Mediuch to spiker Elaine Bennick led the Lobster House in game two. The third game was an excellent match but it was Mediuch's and Cheryl Giddis' net play and the spikes of Komar that again led the Lobster House to victory. The bumps of MacKenzie and Bennick and the precision serves of Giddis led the Lobster House to its final victory of the evening. MIDDLE TOWNSHIP Rec held on to first place as it swept its four games against Kona Women. The scores were 15-3, 15-13, 15-8, 15-6. Middle Rec was led in

game one by Gwyn Williams diving digs and Trish Cowhev's sets to Peg Arnold for the winning spikes. An outstanding offensive display by Robin Gilbert and defensive play by Barb Brown and Barb Hensil led Middle Rec to victory. The net play of Peg Arnold and Gilbert led Middle in the third game. Middle Rec completed the sweep behind Williams' bumps and Gilbert's sets to Cowhey. Harvey's defeated Needlers II in three of four games. Needlers won the third game 15-7. Harvey's woo the other three 15-4, 15-3 and 15-2. Harvey's attack in game one was led by Terri Taylor's fantastic serves and Barb Bakeley's sets to spiker Sheri Hickok. Harvey's was led in game two by Sharon Mericle and Lorraine Holt and the defense of Sheri Hickok. Needlers II played a great game in the third game behind the net play of Marion Lamach and Mary Ann Haflin and the defensive play of Marie Flacco. The final game was all Harvey's as it was led by the

bumping of Mericle, spiking by Hickok and all around play of Taylor. MUSCLE WORLD moved into a tie for second place as it swept the Coast Guard Waves. The first game was a forfeit and the scores of the other games were 17-15, 15-11 and 15-5. Muscle World was led in game two by the spikes of June Reidenbach thanks to the sets of Judy Maxlowe. The serves of Betty Harshaw sparked a comeback win for Muscle

World in the third game. In the final match Muscle World's Debbie McFall, Wendy Bruno and Maxlowe controlled the offense at the net while Lynn Griffin and Reidenbach supplied the defense to insure victory. Cape Team Drops Challenge Match

COURT HOUSE - The team from Jersey Cape Racquet Club here traveled north Jan. 19 for a challenge match with Golf and Tennis World of Atlantic City. Jersey Cape got off to a slow start as Golf and Tennis World took the early lead in ladies doubles action. The team of Lisa Imperato and Linda Goff took their event 6-1, 6-2 and Olga Christensen and Mary Lou Ferry also won their event 6-3, 6-1. Jersey Cape came right back with a solid win in men's doubles as Ed Evanchyk and Jack Bowman finished on top 6-4, The mixed doubles team of Zack Chavez and Tracey Hall also played well to give Jersey Cape a win of , 6-3, 7-5. GOLF AND Tennis World's team of Rae

Tabasso and Carolyn Ready finished on top 6-3, 7-5, io ladies doubles. Undaunted, the men's doubles team of Wayne Kenneisen and Bob Sheppard topped their opponents 6-1, 6-3 to add more winning games to Jersey Cape's score sheet. In other men's doubles action Joe Laveson and Chuck Haeille squeaked past Jersey Cape's Lee Jones and Ron Hewitt to win their event in a threeset tie braker 4-6, 6-3. Phil Kelly and Bob Hughes gave Jersey Cape an impressive win of 6-2, 6-2 as they steamrolled over their opponents. The scores were close as the evening's last event ended in victory for Golf and Tennis World's mixed doubles team of John Goff and Emily Money. Their win of 6-3, 6-3 was enough to give Golf and Tennis World a match victory of 90-85.

Potter Still Tops After Faunce Split

CAPE MAY - The Potter continued to occupy first place in men's power volleyball as it split four games with Faunce Enterprises. Faunce won the first two games 15-6 and 15-12 while The Potter came back to win the last two games 15-6 and 15-7. Faunce's Jerry Miller and Mark Yourison's perfect blocks prevented Potter's spikers from penetrating in game one. Potter took an early lead in game two behind great spikes of Scott Hiller and Bobby Jackson. Jackson's blocks and spikes led Potter to the win in game three. Potter continued its perfect teamwork in game four as Tom Roth's sets to spiker Stu Cohen carried their team to the win. WHIPPOORWILL Campground and Lighting Dimensions split theif four games. Whippoorwill won the first

two games 16-14 and 15-8 while Lighting Dimensions rebounded to take the last two games 16-14 and 15-12. The first game was very close, as the score indicated as the spikes of Steve Faragher led Whippoorwill to the win. Bumps by Whippoorwill's Brian Lihoe and Ted Jefferson and sets by Billy Holt led their team in the second game. Game three saw both teams play great volleyball as Steve Faragher's spikes again dominated the game. But Lighting Dimensions' spirited teamwork with Ted Ferrante's spikes hitting the mark and John Wilsey's dinks catching Whippoorwill off guard paid off in the end fo. the close win. Game four was a replay of the third games as Lighting Dimensions utilized excellent teamwork for the win.

Skateboard Ramp Built

CAPE MAY — A forum for some of the most creative and skilled skateboarders in the southern portion of Cape May County is being provided at Convention Hall. To enhance the program, which has been expanded to Monday, Wednesday and Friday (3:30-5:30 p.m.) the

city's Recreation Department had two of the skateboard enthusiasts. Will Tirri and Harry Back, build a quarter-pipe ramp inside the hall. Materials were provided by the city. Youngsters 18 years old and younger are welcome to participate. For information call the Department of Civic Affairs 884-8411, ext. 20 or 27.

Center Begins Classes Tues.

WILDWOOD - The city's Recreation Center offers a Slimnastic Jazzercise Class Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning Feb.
