Time Out Dining Guide

FEBRUARY is in. January is almost out. One month of the calendar has already flitted by. We're getting nearer and nearer to Valentine's Day, President's Day — and to tax time. We'll take them each in order. Also coming along this Saturday— is Ground-Hog Day. According to an old legend, the ground-hot, or woodchuck, comes out of his burrow oh this day. If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter, and he goes back to sleep. If he does not see his shadow, he stays up because winter is nearly over. Here's hoping Mr. Ground-Hog does not see his shadow. Today is the birthday of Franklin D. Roosevelt, born 103 years ago in Hyde Park, N.Y. Time marches on. Everyday is somebody's birthday. If your birthday is today or tomorrow or the next day, then we say Happy Birthday to you. Here's looking at you, kid. While we're still deep in winter, each passing day brings us closer to the new season waiting just around the corner. Day by day the hours of light grow longer and sunset's glory lingers in the sky just above the beach's rim. February can be ornery but each day the calendar chips off a sliver of shrinking winter. February is the shortest months of the year, yet it can seem the longest if you're tired of winter. There's a rash of holidays in February to put a little luster in the month. Lucky you if you're got a few days off to look forward to. We always look forward to stepping out for a bite to eat. Here's where we've been stepping out to this week: BROTHERS. North Cape May has a very special Italian and American Restaurant, Brothers' which features home style Italian cuisine at its finest. Open all

year from 6 a.m. to midnight, you'll fine it conveniently located at the Breakwater Plaza. Breakfast, lunch and dinner specials are served 6 a.m. to noon, and 4 to 10 p.m. We enjoyed a very good Shrimp Scampi there last weekend while The Hubby ordered the Veal Milanese. Snackers will find cold and hot subs, steaks and Sicilian Pizza. Desserts include tortoni, spumoni, ice cream, delicious assorted pies, cannolis and Italian cheesecake. BRIAN'S PLACE. Brian's Place is giving Avalon an even more envitable reputation as a good eating town. Located at 2408 Dune Drive, Brian's Place serves per fectly broiled fresh jumbo shrimp, petite filet mignon, lobster parmigiana with spaghetti and delicious creamy deviled crab. Brian's also serves mussels and linguine, fettucini Alfredo with lump sauteed crabmeat and very tender broasted chicken. Dinners are served 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. All dinners include choice of soups, warm rolls and butter, potato and vegetable. Lunch is served 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and includes some surprising and very affordable choices. Be sure to give Brian's Place a try while it's building such an outstanding reputation. SCRENCI'S. Screnci's will be reopening its' doors on Friday, February 1st and the friendly Screnci family invites you to stop by for one of very special full course dinners served Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Located at 6208 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City, Screnci's is family all the way from the moment you enter the warm interior. We like everything that Screnci's serves, but especially the excellent seafood dishes that the Screnci family is noted for. The choices are numerous whether you choose pastas, seafood, meats or poultry. One of the worse kept secrets in Cape (Page 24 Please)
