MAC Starting Combo Tours Sat.

CAPE MAY - On the first two Saturdays in February. Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) is sponsoring Combination Trolley/Physick Estate Tours that offer visitors an overview of Cape May's famous Victorian architecture.

Scheduled for 1p.m. and 2 p.m. these tours begin at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., with an hour-long guided trolley tour that covers both the East End and West End Historic Districts. In MAC's heated, enclosed trolley-bus, trained guides point out landmarks and regale visitors with accounts of Cape May's heyday as a Victorian seashore resort. Returning to the estate, visitors are next guided through the lavish interior of the Physick House. This 16-room mansion was designed by architect Frank Furness. Built in 1881 in Stick Style, it has been restored as a Victorian house museum. Its interior contains examples of Eastlake-style furnishings and fixtures (many of which were original family pieces designed by Furness) as well as collections of costumes, toys, and artifacts. Two recent

developments in the restoration are of interest to visitors. Both the formal parlor and music room have been furnished with bold late Victorian carpeting. Made specially in England for the Physick House in a style popular in the 1880s, the carpets feature a continuous pattern of large ferns and leaves in vibrant shades of red and green. In addition, Curator Charles Miller has completed his marbleizing of the ground floor conservatory. His mixture of yellow, brown and white have made this small room at the rear of the house one of the brightest spots on the tour. Ending this combination tour on a festive note, visitor are served hot cider and goodies in the kitchen. The cost of the tour package is $8 for adults, $4 for children. Tickets will be on sale at the entrance to the Physick House. No reservations are necessary.

Valentine's Dance Slated

CAPE MAY - The city will sponsor a Valentine Dance at Convention Hall Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8:30 to midnight. A variety of music will be provided by 1 the Village Four Band. There will be a door prize drawing, ice, chips, pretzels, plates, buckets and cups. Tickets can be purchased at Convention Hall Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 p.m. Tables may be reserv-
