COURT HOUSE - Herald-Lantern Editor Joseph R. Zelnik was feted at a surprise birthday party in the office last week. Zelnik reportedly was disappointed by a cash gift from his fellow employes, but delighted by other presents that included a beautiful apron, a pair of worn blue jeans, two ties from the '50s when he was in his prime, and, most touching, a pair of slippers made from a deer shot by Advertising Director Gary Rudy. The party included a

huge, mocha-flavored cake damp with rum and a pint of Thunderbird that Zelnik generously shared with the dozen guests.

Students In Tennis Tourney COURT HOUSE - The Jersey Cape Racquet Club held a tournament for students in the area high schools Jan. 18 and 19. The events held were girls singles and boys singles. In the opening rounds Friday, Sherri Sheppard advanced to the semi-final by winning 6-1, 6-2. Thea Sanford also won a spot in the semi-finals by topping her opponent 6-1, 6-4. IN BOYS singles play, Scott Piro topped his opponent 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round of play to advance to the semi-finals. Pete Babore also won a spot in the semi-finals by downing his opponent 6-3, 6-2. In other boys singles action, Dan McMahon claimed a spot in the semi-final as he won his opening round 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Scott Smith won his first round 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 as he advanced to semi-finals action. In Saturday's semi-finals play, Theresa Ward topped her opponent in 3 sets to advance to the final, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Thea Sanford also claimed a spot in the final as she topped her opponent 6-0, 6-1. In boys singles action, Piro breezed into the final round with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Smith played as he advanced to the final round with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Because of bad weather, the final was postponed from Jan. 20 to Sunday, Jan. 27.
