Wetlands Plans Trip to Academy
STONE HARBOR - Have you ever watched a waterfall fall on you? Visitors to the new "Outside In" section within the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences can observe this phenomenon through a glass bottom pool. A new enlarged version of the children's nature museum, this section at the Academy will be a destination of the next Wetlands Institute daytrip slated for Saturday, Jan. 26. A special guided tour of the dinosaur exhibit is on the agenda, also, and a free seat on the bus is the award for new family memberships with the institute. THE TOUR will be greeted at 10a.m. and guided by Polly Perkins, researcher and designer at the academy who painted murals on the walls of the new museum. Included in the children's exhibits are touching opportunities with live animals in woodlands, freshwater stream and beach environments. Lizards, snakes, frogs, turtles, toads, rabbits and mice are available with staff guidance. A "Back Porch" section provides microscopes, scales and other equipment for further exploration of nature. Ms. Perkins was project leader for the new exhibition, which features all new sets. With a master's degree in fine arts from Rutgers University, she has taught classes for children at the Wetlands Institute and has worked for the Academy of Sciences for three years. THE INSTITUTE'S chairman, paleontologist Roger Wood, will lead the group through "Dinosaurs: An Exhibit in the Making." At the end of these programs, tour members will have free time from noon to 3:30 p.m. in Philadelphia. The bus will
return to Jamesway Plaza in Cape May Court House at approximately 5 p.m. Lunch is available at the Franklin Institute near the academy, or participants may bring their own lunch and eat at the academy. Reservations must be received by Jan. 19, and are limited to the bus seats available for adults and children. One free seat is being offered for each new family membership in the Wetlands Institute. The bus leaves Jamesway Plaza in Cape May Court House at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. For reservations, phone the institute at 368-121 1 between 10 and 4:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Open House NORTH WILDWOOD - Wildwood Catholic High School will hold an open house to present "W.C.H.S. - Who we are and what we are all about" 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, for all 6th and 8th graders and parents.
