Stone Harbor Seniors' 15th anniversary will be celebrated Feb. 6 with a luncheon at noon at the Golden Inn (those wanting cocktails should arrive at 11:30 a.m.). The organization was formed Feb. 12 by realtor James Otton and then recently-retired George Woolnough, who has since died. Price for the affair will be based according to choice of lunch ordered from the menu. Several surprises have been planned by the hosting committee and except for snowbirds, all members are making reservations by calling V P. Scott Daniels at 368-5043. WE JUST called the Marine Mammal Stranding Station to check on Rainbow, the beached, female saddleback dolphin discovered on 99th street beach by Dick Reese and kept alive by his wife, Delores, and two house guests until the personnel from the station in Brigantine arrived With special equipment for transporting it to safety. "It" was promptly named Rainbow when her sex was determined. Her life span in captivity is expected to be one year, and while we were on the phone arrangements were being made to fly her to a spot where she can safely rejoin her species and live her full life span in the open sea, where she belongs. Delores Reese feels strongly that Rainbow knew people were trying to help her and wants to bid her farewell before she is set free.
Marie A. Hewitt, of Woodbine, chairman of the knitting committee of the Sea Isle City branch of Seaman's Church Institute of N.J. called and asked that we clarify last week's item about used Christmas cards. Seems the Institute wants only Christmas cards to mount on a greeting they have prepared in advance to enclose with packages they wrap for sailors away from home. Mrs. Hewitt has 30 volunteer knitters who work year-round making sweaters and scarf and cap sets to specification from wool purchased with gifts of money at bargain prices. They take an annual trip to New York headquarters to deliver handmade cards and gifts which they wrap in tissue and secure with any sort of donated adhesive seals to save the cost of gummed tape. Katherine Bushay of Ocean View is in charge of the Christmas card project. The Seaman's Church Institute is just one of many organizations which Avalon Seniors assist and the AARP wants all kinds of greeting cards — valentines, birthday, postals etc. so we repeat, stick em in a paper bag and deliver to ASCO at Community Hall, Avalon, on Seniors' Workday (fourth Tuesday every month). Your discards could make someone else very happy. FRIENDS OF John and Alexandra Kokonos will be
saddened to learn that Alexandra's mother, Theresa Sosangelis, underwent extensive surgery two weeks ago to mend a fractured leg. It was necessary to reinforce the bone with a metal rod and those of you who have undergone similar operations know the resultant pain. Unfortunately it does, not disappear magically following surgery, but the morale building which friends can accomplish with get-well cards and messages of love and encouragement can and do work miracles. We're hoping Theresa will be home soon, so while she is still in Lankeanau ' Hospital it might be better to send thoughts care of the Kokonos at: 30 Ormond Ave., Havertown, PA 19083. WE CALLED Cass Magee, secretary of St. Joseph's Regional School, to see how she was coming along after the total destruction by fire of her home at 15 45th St., SIC. Of course she was grateful that neither she nor her daughter Jeannie (kindergarten teacher at the same school), were injured and firefighters from both Avalon and SIC Fire Companies suffered more from the cold than they did from the flames. Mrs. Magee is a very spunky, as well as savvy, lady — she became emotional only when she spoke of the kindness of others. She was especially touched when six boys (men in every respect but their age) from Stone Harbor, ranging from 4th to 8thgraders, presented her
with $43 they collected shoveling snow on her behalf. Five of the lads are students at St. Joseph's: Patrick and Shane Leahy, John and Danny Spindler, Jimmy McElhatton; and Greg Flifski, who attends Middle Township School. Cass' voice broke when she told us the whole venture was the youngsters' idea and their parents were thrilled with their initiative and concern for others. Last Monday was the second coming of the ice age. If Stone Harbor made awards for valor we'd nominate the following: the S.H. Shovel Squad, Pat Fitzpatrick for her allpoints bulletins, Alexandra Kokonos for driving from Havertown to chair a meeting of KIT, Gerry Daugherty for driving from Dias Creek to open Andre's Hairdressing just to please one customer, and Harry Keen Plumbing's trouble shooters, Mike Burke and Dale Ludwig, for swimming through ice water to fix leaks long after working hours for their customers. Mayor Arden Hand and wife, Ann, just returned from Longboat Key, Fla. Mr. Mayor said they enjoyed their stay but got out just before the severe cold hit. Now, he says a lot of people are returning to have a comfortable round of golf up here. Tom Markle, who owns the Mimi Shop, took his two younger children, Steve
and Dave, on their annual jaunt to Florida. Now he's off to Switzerland with oldest son, Brian, and his nephew Paul. That's what we call the good life! STONE HARBOR Seniors welcomed 1985 in at Legion Hall with a party reminiscent of Balloon Night at Sherman Billingsley's Stork Club. The party was arranged by Dot and Norman McMahon with a large committee. Each table held a bouquet of balloons and a large net filled with 100 gas-filled toys was suspended over the dance floor to be released at midnight. The regular orchestra supplied the music with guest stars contributing their special talents. It was our first time out with the Seniors in more than three months and we were shocked to find so many unfamiliar faces. It's growing like a hen and chicken plant — it's great to see attractive new members with fresh ideas. The Carey Bosses and Scott Daniels are to be congratulated for attracting so much new blood to keep a swell organization cooking on the front burner. Marguerite and Bill Klotzbucher, who have been in the forefront of every Stone Harbor organization and activity since they retired down here, are leaving us for greener pastures in the winter. They have just bought a home in N. Fort Myers, Fla. Their address will be 9140 Flamingo Cir-
cle, Fla. 33903. Marguerite has already left with a car full of furniture and Big Bill is getting around by shanks mare temporarily. They plan to make it their permanent residence and rent here during the summer. We're going to miss Marguerite's zing and boundless energy. Dean's List For Davies AVALON — Local resident Patrick S.
