Middle Rec Has One-Game Net Lead

CAPE MAY - The Lobster House and Muscle World split their four games in Women's Power Volleyball League action last week. Lobster House won the first two by scores of 15-2 and 15-2. Muscle World rebounded in the last two 15-5 and 15-9. Lobster House jumped on Muscle World early in game one and never let up, led by the serves of Elaine Bennick and Patty Komar and net play of Marlene Mediuch. The setting and bumping of Cheryl Giddis and all around play from Laura Houben were the keys for Lobster House's win in game two. MUSCLE WORLD rebounded in game three behind the net play of Judy Maxlowe and defensive gems from Lynn Griffen and Debbie McFall. Muscle World took the last game behind the spiking of Betty Harshaw and digs of Debbie McFall. Middle Recreation continued to hold its one-game first place lead as it swept Needlers II in their four games. The scores were 15-11. 15-1. 15-13. 15-6. Kona won the first 15-10 while the Waves won the last three 15-13. 15-10. 15-9. Shirley Ludman's net play and Kathy Strang's bumps paced Kona in the first game. The Coast Guard won game two thanks to Leigh Ann Mauro's sets to spiker Susan Huitt. Game three saw Danne Kurk and Luisa Shaw's bumps and sets to Wanda Mourino for spikes to lead the Coast Guard. The Waves continued to play well in game four and defeated Kona behind the all-court play of Kurk and hits by Shaw. HARVEY'S stayed one game out of first place as it defeated J.T. Builders in their four games The scores were 15-1. 15-5. 15-6 and 15-4. The first game was all Sheri Hickok as she served 13 in a row to help Harvey 's in the first game. Game two was much the same as Barb Bakley's sets to Loraine Holt for spikes led Harvey's. The serves of Loraine Holt and Sharon Mericle again led Harvey's in the third game Harvey's completed the sweep of J.T. Builders thanks to the serves of Teri Taylor, aided by the all around play of Hickok. Harvey's also won its four games against Muscle World by forfeit. Volleyball Tourney On Feb. 24 CAPE MAY - A Men's Recreational Volleyball Tournament sponsored by the city will be conducted Sunday. Feb. 24. 1985 at Lower Cape May Regional High School in Erma. The South Jersey District of the United States Volleyball Association will sanction and officiate the upcoming tournament. The first 10 teams that qualify for the U.S.V.B.A. Recreation Division will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams must be registered with the U.S.V.B.A. and pay a registration fee to compete.
