News Notes from The Wildwbods Thomas Parsons 729-5768
It looks as though Steve Ritchie will be filling the North Wildwood School Board seat vacated when Ralph Johnson resigned to accept the City Council seat. Ritchie, whose credentials certainly qualify him for the post, is the Director of Revenue and Finance for the City of Wildwood and is a partner in Coastal Vending in Wildwood. Ritchie rose to the forefront in Wildwood as comptroller under the " old" commission form of government, remained under the governmental change and the Ostrander tenure as Revenue and Finance Director and seems to be fairing well in the "new" reorganized, post-recall DiSylvester era All of this, in Wildwood. speaks well of his abilities and his addition to the North Wildwood Board seems promising. RITE-AID Pharmacy is moving from its center city location. Fortunately it is not leaving Wildwood, just moving quarters to the location presently occupied by the Kranich Shoppe. It seems we Islanders can expect either a toy store or a book store to move into the Rite-Aid spot at 3306 Pacific Ave., Wildwood My personal preference would be a book Store, but alas, having absolutely no control over such things and even being out-voted 2 to 1 by my two sons. I guess we will just have to wait a few weeks to find out just who is "moving into Wildwood." IT IS GOOD to see some of those huge, black pipes disappearing beneath the surface as the MUA proceeds with the laying of the outfall pipes. It sure is a slow process, though Originally scheduled to proceed at the rate of 300 feet, per day. the current progress rarely exceeds 50 feet per day At this rate, we should all be expecting a most unusual traffic snarl on the Fourth of July It is also interesting to note that prior this massive
construction, the firm went up and down the block taking still photos and video recordings of properties adjacent to the digging site! Kind of gives you the "willies" as the multi-ton earth movers and heavy equipment pound the pavement with a vengeance, and you know that there is somebody out there who felt taking "before and after" photographs was important! IT MAY BE my imagination. but it sgems that many local group activities are revolving around food. Perhaps it is the diet that my wife is forcing me to endure, but nevertheless, plenty of good things are out there and the proceeds benefit worthy causes: The Wildwood Elementary School Home Association is having a hoagie sale Feb. 9. Advance tickets and info by calling the hoagie hotline. 729-0456! After your hoagie for lunch, treat yourself to a western style country buffet at the Wildwood Crest PTC's Valentine's Dance at
the Hereford Lodge on Atlantic Avenue. Call 522-8521 or 522-6286 And of course, who wants to cook the next morning? So, pancakes at the Wildwood Crest Ambulance corps building the morning of February 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's pancake breakfast proves to be the most sumptuous ever as in an effort to insure consistently superior breakfast quality. Tom Sawyer and Frank Accardi will be banned from the kitchen. Dinner the evening of the 10th is also taken care of as the Wildwood Crest Republican Club is hosting a President's Day Dinner at Nino's Restaurant in Wildwood. Call 729-6134 for further information FOR THOSE: readers who live in Wildwood Crest participation in the aforementioned events should be easier as a result of the astute budget management of the three elected commissioners of the Borough; Mayor John Pantelone. "Chick" Guhr, and Frank McCall. Why? Simply because the Borough of Wildwood Crest anticipates a 3.1 -cent
tax reduction in the local purpose tax. Translating that into dollar value, a property owner with a home valued at $70,000 will have his tax burden
lowered by approximately $21.70 per year. Coincidentally, that is roughly the cost of a "Glenwood Avenue School hoagie". a ticket to the Crest PTC Western buffet, and pancakes at the Crest Ambulance Corps! So why not live it up, enjoy yourself, compliments of your ejected officials? ATTENTION all thespians! The Holly Beach Players solicit your dramatic talents for the April dinner theater presentation of Grease Two open auditions have been scheduled for any aspiring actor/actress for parts in the April 26 to 28 presentation of Grease Auditions are being held at St Ann's Auditorium 8 p m.
