News Notes from The Cape Mays Dolly Stango

He's John Alexander, son of Elizabeth Alexander of Burleigh, and owner of Fixers Unlimited. It's a unique business where everything in your home can be fixed, no matter what it is that breaks down, surely a "handy ." man to know, — he can do it all. Mirian and Larry Hirsch. owners of the Montreal in Cape May and proud grandparents of Evan Stone, have the right to celebrate. Evan just came into his third birthday and needless to say, a good time was had by all. both big and little ones. JUST TO MAKE it even cozier for the Presidents' Weekend celebration being arranged by the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts with combination tours Of both Trolley and Physick House, now there'll be a film of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". James Stewart is brilliant as the naive Mr. Smith, whose sudden elevation to the U.S. Senate brings him face-to-face with the system's seamy underside. The film will be shown at Victorian Towers. 8:15 p.m., Feb. 16. THE WORD FOR spring, insofar as fashion, is 'BOLD'' as the Paris fashion world is forecasting. You can break the rules: wear glitter, plastic, bright colors, bright leather, at any hour; i.e.. silverplate with crystals, loads of "junky" bracelets, long plastic earrings. or even rhinestones in-between. Around the neck, pearls intermixed with cyrstals. chains either gold or silver, glass pearls, five-strand stuff made up of anything that catches the eye: even watch fobs are back: high, high heels or low. low heels with the Scottie hat (remember them'') or a two-corner hat in straw, lots of rings too. In other words, it seems anything goes. Just go up to your attic and pull out all yesteryear's goodies you've been saving — and now you can put them all to use Happy, happy birthday to Katherine Lewis of Cape May, Beverly Sharp of North Cape May, Leslie Evans of West Cape May and Ronnie Stubbs of Villas. HE'S NEVER too busy to give a helping hand. He's Charles Pessagno of National Associates, father of Franny, Caroline and Stephanie and coach of Star of the Sea's Varsity Basketball team. No wonder they've been going great guns lately, winning and winning. I watched Charles coach the team made up of young boys, all students of Star of the Sea's elementary grades. Even when a player missed a shot, the coach never failed to give kind words and put his arm around him. Evidently even in basketball it's important to have the proper inspiration and that Coach Pessagno does. Co-coach Paul Bogle of the Fudge AVAI.ON BRIDGE CLUB RESULTS Feb. 1st: 1st.. Kitchen was a great help too. Of course, there's nothing better than having a coach who owns a candy store and one who likes to treat the team to goodies — that's a combination hard to beat in more ways than one! A TRIBUTE to Genevieve Van Bever of Cape May Point. It's a known fact that the Point is

now a better place to live because of Genevieve's untiring efforts — she initiated "Games in the Circle", Sand Castle Contests. _ Balloon Explorations. Garden Contests. Easter

Egg Hunts, the Cape May Point Flag — no matter what the weather she was always about doing her thing to make it all so special for all who lived at the Point.

Dr .Gevevieve Van Bever was active in all community affairs. The planning board, secretary of the environmental commission. chairman of children's activities, taxpayers' association, dedicated volunteer at Cape May County Historical and Geneological Museum and served over 1.000 hours in volunteer work at Burdette

Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Dr. Van Bever had a history of heroism in World War II in Europe and North Africa and is known throughout universities both in our country as well as abroad. Dr. Van Bever passed on just last month — and so many don't want to think of a summer at Cape May Point without their beloved Genevieve.
