Hansen Hearing Scheduled . i
COURT HOUSE - Middle Township Police Chief Edward Hansen will appear before Dennis Township Solicitor Jeffrey April next week to fight an eight-day suspension imposed last month by Middle Township Committee. Scheduled last night, the mandated suspension hearing was postponed Monday until Feb. 22. explained Middle Solicitor Bruce Gorman. He said April was asked to conduct the hearing since Committeemen James Alexis and Charles Leusner have disqualified themselves and Mayor Michael Vol! intended to do the same. THE COMMITTEEMEN notified Hansen in late January' that he would be suspended five days in connection with a Dec. 15 crash that totaled a police car. They also handed him a three-day suspension for a Dec. 8 incident when a Middle officer allegedly failed to report for duty. Hansen, with 27 years in law enforcement, has been backed by Local 59 of the Policemen's Benevolent Association and the Cape May County Police Chiefs Association. Local 59 charged, "the politicians" were either trying to "usurp the authority" of the chief or "discredit him." The chiefs group, in a release from acting secretary William J. Wizst. Seeing Eye Club Meet
COURT HOUSE - The 4-H Seeing Eye Club will meet 7:30 tonight in the Cooperative Extension Service Meeting Room, Dennisville Road, Rt. 657. The purpose of the club is to raise puppies provided by the Seeing Eye Inc. in Morristown, and teach them basic commands during # their first year of life. Then the puppies are returned to Seeing Eye for formal training for the blind. The club ,is open to everyone of all ages. Anyone interested in joining is invited to the next meeting or call Louise A. Talarek, 4-H Program Associate between 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. at 465-5115.
