TODAY IS ASH WEDNESDAY, marking the start of the Lenten season This year's early Easter will put a lot of momentum into the weeks ahead The first returning robins should be getting in from the south early in March Keep a watch • • • As we edge out of winter and toward spring you're going to be seeing some surprises in weather When you are all ready for spring. looking for that first robin, you may awake to find a new. clean snowblanket over everything, a sharp, keen wind, and the mercury in the thermometers down below the 20 degree mark • • • We've been watching those noon shadows lately and we can report they are getting much shorter than they were in December This means that the sun is creeping higher and higher in the sky at noon We're also noticing that it gets light much earlier in the mornings these days than it
did back in December, and darkness comes much later in the evening now All of this means that we are getting more hours of sunlight each day than we did in December So a late February or March snowblanket cannot last as long as an equally thick one in December because of the greater heat from the sun now on every square foot of roof or street, during every hour of sunshine • • • While we're talking about sunshine, we thought we'd recommend some sunny places for dining out: THE ORAM) LOUNGE. There's music and dancing a plenty at The Grand Lounge, on the Ocean front
at Rochester adjacent to Wildwood Crest The scenic location has it all for a fabulous night out featuring exciting bands that cater to your every mood when you feel like getting the most out of life Look for Cheerg Wednes day thru Saturday March 13-16 and 20-23 It includes four stars formerly of Then and Now Reservations are suggested - call 720-6000 • • • GOLDEN EAGLE. There's no getting away from the fact that Brian's Place at 2406 Dune Drive, Avalon is becoming the place to go for quality din ing for everything from a light snack to a seafood dinner that is surprisingly affordable We're especially fond of the vegetable lasagna which includes a combina tion of milk-lasagna noodles ricotta cheese, mozarella cheese, spinach, carrots, onion and parmesan cheese All this delicious ness costs a mere 15 95 You'll find lots of affordable choices at Brian's Place, including the mun chy breaded mozzerella cheese bits — something different It costs $3 25 and is a tasty accompaniment for a sandwich or platter • • • FLANDERS.
