Crest, 1st Offer Top . Money Market Rates

By JOSEPH R. ZELNIK Interest rates on the insured money market deposit accounts are the lowest they've been in two years. There's not a 9 percent return to be found in the county for the three checks-a -month maximum account introduced in December 1982. This is in keeping with declining interest rates, an encouraging sign to borrowers, but not necessarily for people living on interest from savings or investments. Some economists in long, pointy hats are saying rates will start back shortly because of the federal government's deficit and a similar corporate deficit Top rates in the county continue to be paid by Crest Savings & Loan and First Savings and Loan, both paying 8.75 percent interest Sturdy is close behind, at 8.3 percent. By comparison, the 91-day U.S. Treasury Bill, which used to be the guide for these money market rates, was paying 8.2 percent last week. CREST AND FIRST also are paying the top rate. 7.75 percent, on the so-called Super Now, similar to the money market account, but permitting unlimited checking And for anyone who can afford to keep a minimum $1,000 socked away. Codec tive Federal has what it calls a money market passbook account that was paying 8.1 percent last week Following list, in alphabetical order, gies
