Laundering Of Money Targeted NEWARK - Cash tran sac t ions exceeding $10,000 and made between persons engaged in a business or trade must now be reported to the Internal Revenue Service, according to its Newark District Office. The new reporting requirement was imposed by the Tax Reform Act of 1964 in an effort to further tighten existing controls on money Laundering ' Therefore, effective Jan 1. 1965. applicable persons receiving cash payments of over $10,000 must file a Form 8300 with the IRS within 15 days of the transaction They must also furnish a written state ment. which may include the Form 8300 to the payer THOSE HMO willfully fail to comply could be subject to civil and criminal penalties The new provisions of the law are intended in part to make it more difficult for business people and others to conceal large sums of taxable income received in cash

Gas Rate Hike Approved FOLSOM - The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities <BPU> has granted a general rate increase of 1.2 percent to South Jersey Gas Co totaling $2 99 million, to be effective with the acceptance of rates designed in accordance with the board's order. The actual rates for customers have not been determined to date New rate schedules will be finalized soon William F Rayan, president of South Jersey Gas. reported that the BPtJ decision is significantly less than the Company's request yf March 1964 amounting to $14 1 million Approximately $6.6 million of the company's original rate request was due to the increased cost of operations and acquisition of capital incurred since February 1963 In addition, the requested amount included approximately $5.6 million for additional federal income taxes and $1 9 million for added gross receipts taxes In spite of the rate increase.
