Bill Seeks Safeguards TRENTON - Assemblyman Guy F Mu ziani, R Cape May, Cumberland, has introduc ed legislation requiring a second physician be present. other than the attending physician who is per forming a pregnancy termination procedune. when the attending physician has determined, using standard medical technique, the unborn child to be 24 weeks of age or older. Mu nam said Muziani has introduced a second bill requiring the State Board of Medical Examiners to conduct an ongoing review of the point at which fetal viability occurs. i the time at which the fetus can remain alive out side the womb i and after consulting with the State Commissioner of Health, the Medical Society of New Jersey and the New Jersey Hospital Association provide guidelines to physicians. which the board shall update as necessary, establishing the point at which, in the board s opi mom. fetal viability occurs in light of the latest medical advances, and stating the recommenda linns of the board as to how. in view of its findings, physicians should conduct themselves regarding procedures to terminate pregnancy.
