The hospital has recently added a second fully equipped nuclear examination room with a new computerized gamma camera The new equipment pro vides images that are inter preted and graphed by computer. The results assist diagnosis with infor matron not available in any other way INDIVIDUALS to be scanned are injected with one of several radioactive compounds, chosen because it will collect in the specific area to br studied For a short period of time the compound will give off minute amounts of energy The gamma camera will record these energy flashes called scintilations giving an accurate and detailed image of the area being examined The dose will be so small that the amount of radia tion absorbed during the procedure is similar or less to that of a conventional Xray The patient recovering from surgery will be given a gallium scan of the ab dominal area capable of detecting abscesses A dif

ferent radionuclide offers a tool for diagnosing acute gall bladder disease without discomfort to the patient A BONE SCAN of the jog ger's foot will determine whether a stress fracture is the cause of his pain.
